So last night I'm writing, and my tiny mind begins to wander, as it will...and I suddenly make a connection. It may be nothing, but it made me smile. I'm going to lay this out in bullet points and try not to make myself sound retarded, since I just crawled from oblivion. *yawn*
1.) In Snake Eater, Snake is the eater of many 'Russian golovas', which are described as, ostensibly 'a fruit'.
2.) There is no such thing as a golova. The word itself literally means 'head' po russky.
3.) However, the word does have one other use, denoting 'head' the same way as it would in English- the head of something, as in a position of authority: more specifically, in Russian military ranking it's another form of the word Colonel.
4.) Maybe you see where this is headed. But I'll take the money shot anyway. XD

6.) colonel=a russian fruit
