"Do you remember the day we met, Snake?" Queried Naomi, before taking another sip at the dirt-brown coffee that was found at the FOXHOUND headquarters. "Nope." Muttered Snake, fiddleing with a packet of cigarrettes. "Remind me." Naomi put down the mud in a plastic cup and took a deep breath. "6th January, 2004. Almost a year ago. Don't you remember?"

The SOCOM. Phase 2 model. 12 round capacity. .45 ACP cartridge. Defidently one of the more sleeker things Snake had seen on the FOXHOUND firing range. He liked it. 5 Shots at the target in and Snake fainly heared his name being called took of his ear peices and turned to see the Colonel walking towards him with an attractive woman in a lab coat that Snake had never seen before. "Cambell." Rasped Snake. "Good to see you." "Afternoon Snake. I havn't seen you since Zanzibar Land." Sanke glanced at the Colonel's silent companion. "You two all they sent for my 'Welcome Back' party?" He joked. Cambell chuckled. "Snake, meet Doctor Naomi Hunter." He said, as the woman gently pushed back her dark hair. "She works joinly with us in the medical division and for the Pentagon." The Doctor finally spoke. "It's an honour to finally meet the -legendary- Solid Snake." Snake grinned. "Being legendary isn't as good as it sounds, Dr. Hunter." He chirped, with a faint tang of regret in his voice. "It's a reaaaal dirty road getting there."

She hated him. She really did. But ofer the next few months She got to know him, and, and much as she didn't want to admit it, she was at least partly wrong about him. He wasn't the bloodthirsty cold murderer she expected him to be. Looking back expecting to be like that seemed a bit nieve. There was a part of him she rather liked. She even went along with his sexual advances. They shared their first kiss together in April of that year. She noticed how dry his lips were. He kissed her and held her close and flirted with her. And every time he did she saw those hands beating her dear brother, or those flames engulfing her caring adopted father. And every time, it filled her with hate. She swore to herself she would never allow herself to fall in love with him.

"Rise and shine, beutiful." Naomi opened her heavy eyes, and felt a rough hand against her cheek. She awoke to se Snake, stark-naked, knelt down next to her lower bunk. "Happy birthday." He muttered. Naomi smiled. "Is this my birthday present?" "No." Replied Snake leaning in. "This is." He landed a passonate kiss onto her lips. ANd another. And another. "How old are you now?" Snake asked in between kisses. "You know it's rude to ask a woman that." Naomi teased. "How'd you get in?" "Sneaking into the female quarters is a lot easier than sneaking into a hostile military complex."

2006. The new year. It's usually a time of celebration. Not this year. Snake was coming to a unwanted realisation. He and Meryl didn't love each other. Never did. She just saw the legendary hero Solid Snake. The fake. She left when she saw the real Snake. And he just needed someone, after what Naomi reveiled. He lied when he said he had never been interested in anyone else's live. There had been women before. Naomi's betrayal made him realise he had never had a relationship that wasn't hollow. He turned to Otacon who was sitting beside him, staring at a computer screen and hands tapping at the keyboard. "Otacon" he hissed, "can you find which prison Naomi is in?" Otacon looked confused but didn't tear his eyes from the screen before him. "Y-yeah, pretty easily. But one thing, Snake. Hasn't she, you know, tried to kinda kill you?' Snake allowed a feeble little laugh to escape his mouth. "Otacon, my whole family have tried to kill me. It's not really something I worry about anymore."

"Pfft, clearence looks ok. Go ahead, you can see 'er." Grumbled the guard, and Snake took a seat in a small gray room with a gray floor, gray walls and three grey chairs. SNake sat down and fumbled with a cigarrette pack. "Hey!" Warned one of the guards, "No smokin'!" Snake cursed under his breath, and looked up. Sitting lady-like in the chair opposite was Naomi. She looked tired, but still as beutiful as he remembered. They sat there in an awkward silence for what seemed like hours when Naomi finally croaked the words: "I loved you."
Snake stared at her intensly. "I know." He said.
"I loved you and I promised that I wouldn't."
Tears were forming around her pretty eyes and sorrow and fury sliped into her voice.
"I loved you and i promised to myself I wouldn't because you killed the people I loved, you killed my ONLY family and I hated you and... and..."
Sh stopped talking and sat there and sobbed. For a long time. Eventually she wiped away the tears and Snake spoke.
"Maybe one day, I'll tell you I love you."
Naomi finally made eye contact with Snake and said softly: "Maybe one day i'll believe you."

His arms were around her, his lips melting against her neck and her face. She was in extacy, and she hated herself for it. They shouldn't be doing this now. The Shadow Moses mission was tomorrow. She imbraced him. They just needed a few more hours. He stopped and down at her. "Maybe one day" he whispered "i'll tell you I love you." She smiled back. "Maybe one day i'll believe you."
