I know that I said that I would stop spamming the comm, but I couldn't help but post this, really. After all, this thing has been bothering me for a while, so I decided to sit down and write this down today.
Title: I'm Dead
Pairing: The Raikov/Volgin is implied, but, it really isn't mentioned much, so that's why I put 'gen' there.
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Raikov analyses the things that happened to him during the operation in Groznyj Grad and the things that happened to him after that, and how BB happens to interfere in his life a lot. It's all written on Raikov's PoV.
Warnings: There are minor 'spoilers' for MGS3 and MPO, but I don't think it's anything that will 'destroy' the plot of the game for the people who still didn't play it.
When you die, no one goes after you. No one bothers you.
Back in Groznyj Grad, when I woke up almost completely naked in that locker, I knew that I had been got by the one they were always talking about, all over the base: Snake.
I was half-impressed, half-surprised. I really didn't expect the events there would turn to me. I was even more surprised - not to say that I even felt sorry for Snake - when I found out about him disguising as me and getting uncovered by Volgin himself. I also heard about the whole torture scene.
But, when Snake escaped from the base, I knew that it was just a matter of time for him to come back and destroy the whole place. Before that could happen, I decided it was time to call it quits and leave that place. After all, I didn't have anything else there that interested me. Even dear Volgin have changed to someone else.
So, as quiet as a mouse, I sneaked out of the base, carrying with me the clothes I had on and a Makarov. That's all I took with me. I had no interest in loads of money from the Philosophers or any of that mess. I knew that, if I did, that would haunt me until my death. Also, I assumed that whole thing couldn't stay under the carpet for long and when they started looking for people to blame, I would be primer suspect.
And that's when I officially 'died'. I died in Groznyj Grad.
After that, I began to seek a home in all countries, all over Europe. Italy, France, Spain, England, Finland... I tried each and every one of them, but I was always looking over my shoulder, expecting someone to capture me so then I could 'answer for my crimes'. This whole 'cat and mouse game' continued for more than five years, until I got tired of it.
Then, I decided it was time to change continents, but I needed some place where no one would even dream about looking for me. So, I found the perfect hideout: South America. But, not any country in South America. My destination was Colombia. I knew no one would bother looking for a low rank officer so far away, in such a small country.
I relaxed for a couple of months there, watching the local culture of the place and admiring it's natural beauty. Although, it didn't take long for some news to get to my ears. I started hearing rumours about a 'secret' base in one of the peninsulas, and how no one knew what was going on there.
Looking further into it, I discovered where that said base was and part of what was about to take place there: full-scale nuclear war. That's when my path crossed Snake's once again.
I didn't even knew how the man looked like, until that second meeting, but I knew it was him as soon as he pointed a gun at my back and told me to freeze. I turned to him and he seemed surprised to see my face.
I bet he thought I was dead.
When he realized that I wasn't in the enemy's side, he agreed to tell me what was going on and asked me if I wanted to join his small group, an invitation which I merrily accepted. Even though I didn't have nothing to do with that 'war', I thought that helping out Snake - now known as Big Boss by his comrades - would be a nice way to redeem myself from my past mistakes.
The whole operation took months. It was nothing like what happened back in Groznyj Grad. At that time, when I started hearing the name 'Snake' being spoken here and there, it took only a week for the base to be blast to pieces.
Finally, the threat was neutralized and everyone could sleep at night in peace. Everyone but Big Boss. I knew that something bothered him. All the time. That intrigued me and, for some reason, I wanted to know what exactly made him so unhappy, but I never dared asking. I quickly learned that Big Boss wasn't the most friendly person in the world and wouldn't open himself so easily, specially to a total stranger.
I decided to go back to my small house in that tiny town I was living. No use bothering about Big Boss' troubles, because I knew I would never figure them out.
One day, scanning through the newspaper, I read a small piece of news where they said that a certain soldier whose codename was 'Snake' prevented a world war. I took a look at the picture there and couldn't help but notice that the boy resembled Big Boss.
Saving the world must run in the family, I thought, folding the newspaper and finishing my coffee. I never heard of that Snake soldier again, nor did I hear about Big Boss.
I assumed both of them 'died' the same way I did.
