Whew, it's been a long week for a week that started out somewhat quietly. Spent several days this week tackling hi-cap phone line problems at work again. This time the line went down entirely, which at least makes it easier to focus the phone company's attention on fixing the problem. Corporate IT also happened to take more notice of the problem this time and also the fact that I predicted the failure based on other symptoms I was seeing at least a week ago (which the phone company's support staff brushed off or excused themselves from responsibility). Corporate says they're working on involving an outside consulting firm that they retain to try to address these recurring problems that we have. Apparently they specialize in dealing with telecommunications companies and finding solutions to telecom problems. So hopefully we'll end up with some real results in trying to find a permanent solution for our recurring troubles (although I'll believe it when it actually happens).
Also, I did end up replacing my primary computer's mainboard. It became evident that the problems with my original board were worsening, and keeping that machine running smoothly is generally too important to me to simply sit around and wait for it to "blow up." So I ordered a replacement (found a good deal, too, at least in my opinion), and I rebuilt my machine and started reinstalling software (decided to reinstall from scratch) on Wednesday night. Last night I finished the last of the reinstalls. Everything seems to be running beautifully at this point, so hopefully it stays that way for a good long while *crosses fingers, knocks on wood*.
After having dealt with and closed up these complicated multi-day issues, this morning gave me an almost "anticlimatic" sensation (although I'm not gonna complain, this week is free to fizzle out quietly at this point as far as I'm concerned). My plans for this weekend include spending a lot of time with Maria and hanging out with some friends as well. Hopefully I can psychologically recover from all the craziness. I'm just glad it's Friday.
