My first day back to work after the second of two five-day weekends has quickly hit the ground running. I've spent most of the morning dealing with various technical bits around work (although most everything is going swimmingly so far). Looking at solid work weeks from now until the weekend of Ohayocon, and then from the following Monday through Good Friday. Busy busy busy...
So Maria and I are back in the normal routine as an engaged couple that is feverishly working out preparations for a wedding that is now barely *eight months* away. Man, so much to do... But of course it's exciting. Yesterday evening we went to our first session of what I've half-jokingly started referring to as "marriage school." See, when you get married in a Catholic church, they ask you to take a small set of "courses" and lectures (as I'm sure is also the case in many other organized religious institutions). I consider most of it well-meaning (last night was mostly about learning to exercise good communications skills, and this group session was conducted by a professional marriage counselor), but a few of the subjects are obvious examples of the Catholic church pushing a few of their age-old agendas. ;-) But I don't wish to ridicule anyone based on personal beliefs, whether or not those beliefs are derived from an institution. I'm trying to approach everything with an open mind such as to see whatever wisdom may lie within (even if a few bits of it are heavily coated in religious assumptions or propangada). I think it's gonna be an interesting year, no doubt.
