Bobby, my loving goldfish (named after everyone's favorite high school Bio teacher!), passed away today at the age of 11 months. I got him last year at "Fish Bowl Night" at PC, and while everyone else's fish died within a week, mine stayed strong. He was a fighter thru and thru. He was also very sensitive of my feelings, and I swear, whenever I was sad, he would mope around his bowl watching me. (This was when i was still w/ the bad roomies). When we moved to the new room, he was happy, not only because of the new AMAZING roommates, but also because he now had a friend: Mr. McFeely. Though they had separate bowls, they often tried to swim thru to the other bowl. (No one said they were smart!) Bobby came home with me on long breaks home and always ate food in little bites, moving it around and breaking it into little pieces before eating anything (just like I do!). He was loved by all, and will be greatly missed.
Bobby had been looking kind of sick all this week, and my mom and I thought maybe he just needed a clean bowl (since I hadn't really cleaned the water lately). We got a great big fishbowl, filled it with pretty gravel, and put him and Mr. McFeely together in it yesterday (after being assured by the pet store that they would not eat each other or procreate!) It wasn't the water, though, it was old age. Today, Bobby got really front-heavy, and was swimming around vertically, it was very sad. Mr Mcfeely went up to him, and we were afraid "oh gosh, he's gonna eat him!". but he didn't: Mr. McFeely nudged Bobby's head and held it up so Bobby could reach the food up top. It was so sweet. Bobby couldn't make it, though, and it was obvious he wasn't doing well, so we ended his suffering. It was a sad day indeed. I will always miss you, Bobby! Becky says you are in fishy heaven now, and I'm sure you are :-) Please feel free to share your favorite Bobby memories as comments to this entry. Thank you.
