BACKSTREET'S BACK- ALRIGHT!

Last night was the greatest night of my life. No, I'm not exaggerating, it really was that amazing! So here is what you have all been waiting for: my play-by-play of last night: the Backstreet Boys Never Gone Tour Concert at Chevrolet Theater (formerly known as Oakdale) in Wallingford, CT.

I got out of work at 2pm yesterday to get ready. It was quite different from the last BSB concert I went to, when I spent all day getting ready: painting my nails black and blue (with BSB nail tattoos on them!), and getting out my BSB necklaces, pins, shirt, actionfigures, signs, etc. It was a serious affair! This time, I spent the most time straightening my hair and putting on eyeshadow (I guess we all have to grow up sometime!) Anyways, so Chris came here right after work and hung out with Brian while I finished doing my hair and makeup, and then we were off (complete with my mom reminding us probably 20times to "drive slow!" and "be careful!").

After grabbing a quick dinner at a D'Angelo's in Rocky Hill, (which was the ONLY restaurant around, I swear!), we finally got to Oakdale (I mean the Chevrolet Theatre formerly known as CTNow Oakdale Theatre). First thing I did was buy my concert tee (which I proudly wore to work today!) Like any other concert, there were radio stations all in the lobby doing giveaways and raffles and broadcasting live. Also, they had free Dunkin Donut lattes! (chris only let me have one sample, though, because he said I was already wigging out! I can't help it: I get very antsy when it comes to my Boys!) We went to find our seats: they were amazing: I mean not front section, but section right behind that, which is really close and eyelevel and we saw perfectly: I could actually see the guys like facial expressions and stuff! Then came the worst part: waiting around for the show. We entertained ourselves by making fun of the scantily clad girls. (Note: yesterday inspired me to start my own charity- Big Clothes for Big Girls- raising money to by the correct size and coverage of clothes for girls according to their size.) I explained to Chris that each and every girl (including me) goes to BSB concerts with that little piece of their heart and brain that genuinely believes that at one point in the concert one of the Boys will turn, lock eyes with you, and stop the show, running up to you saying "I can't live without you. It's a good thing you wore that skanky tube top with your rolls hanging out so that I would notice your sexiness and realize we are soulmates!"

But I digress. So after making fun of the skanky girls, (and the security guard who looked like Billy Joel and Chris wanted to befriend!), the opening act finally came on. Now, we were all expecting Click Five to come on (more on them later), but some ditzy Britney-wannabe came out instead and did a set that was only 15min but seemed like 15hours. I swear if she said “omigosh I’m like so excited cuz my CD came out today!” one more time…

Finally, though, Click Five came out and did an AMAZING set. They were great! For you who don’t know who they are: imagine Maroon5 + the Killers + LFO (cuz they are a Boston boy band). So good! You probably know their song “just the girl”: the chorus goes “cuz she’s bittersweet, she knocks me off of my feet…”

Then, there was another halfhour wait while they set the stage up for BSB. It was worth it, though! Here is a summary of each of the four segments of the concert:

Part I: Black and Blue… (included video clips and performances from Black and Blue Album, with some new song performances from “never gone”)
-included The Call, My Beautiful Woman, Climbing the Walls (acoustic), Shape of My Heart, and I Still

Part II: Millenium! (same deal as above but with Millenium and Never Gone songs
-included “Don’t Want You Back, Siberia, Crawling Back to You, The One, Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely, Crawling Back to You, I WANT IT THAT WAY,

Part III: their first CD (self-titled)
-included We’ve Got it Goin’ On, All I have to Give, As Long as you Love ME, I’ll Never Break Your Heart, Quit Playing Games, and a surprise performance of Drowning! (from their Greatest Hits album!)

Part IV: Never Gone!
-Never Gone, Weird World, Incomplete (last two were sung around the baby grand as Kevin played)

Encore: Everybody- Backstreet’s Back!

So, here are some interesting comments about last nite:

-crowd was 90% female, with 70% of those girls within three years of my age.
-the men were all either fathers, little brothers, or boyfriends who were dragged along (like mine), although there may have been one or two gay guys I didn’t notice

-the mother get into it just as much as the teen girls. One mom near me shouted at one point “I’ve seen you guys 7times in concert. I love you. Woohoo!!” And she sang and danced in her seat the entire concert- she knew all the words! Another mom was wearing a shirt that read “Moms heart BSB, too!”

-I believe that AJ was hurt last night. He kept holding his shoulder and wincing in pain. I will have further details as they become available ;-)

-Poor Howie! In the finale, they all stood on these platforms that descended to below the stage, but Howies didn’t work so he was stuck up on stage by himself waiting for his platform, till finally he shrugged, blushed, and ran offstage

-Nick, my gosh you are chubby. Oh, and funny coinkidink: the boys stayed in the Hilton in Hartford. You know the paris joke I could insert here ;-)

- I was literally 75feet away from Kevin at one point! He’s so handsome and distinguished, very classy.

-Brian, you are so adorable, yet so balding. Of all the boys, you and AJ are aging the worst. AJ’s excuse is clean living, so maybe yours is being a daddy now. Oh well, you are still an adorable 30year old , lol

And that, my friends, is the summary of the BSB concert!
