Kra-kow!!!
Thunder roared, and the sound seemed to come from everywhere at once. Kiba jumped up from the couch, causing Akamaru to fall to the floor. Kiba quickly bent down and scooped him back up, and stroked his back reassuringly.
“Sorry about that boy.” Kiba said with a nervous chuckle, “That was close, wasn’t it.” he watched as rain pelted the living room window, and shuddered a little. He wished that his mom and Hana weren’t out on missions, he hated thunderstorms, especially at this time of year.
“Think we should…” he started to ask Akamaru when there was a flash of lightning so bright that he was momentarily blinded, followed immediately by the loudest crack and roar of thunder he’d ever heard. He tried to leap back from the window, which was on the other side of the room, and ended up falling on his butt. He let out a laugh tinged lightly with hysteria, and looked down at Akamaru.
“I…I think we should go to bed.” he said, voice barely above a whisper. He got to his feet shakily, and started to move towards the stairs to his room, when there was a loud knock on his door. His head snapped to the hall leading to the front door, and he gulped loudly.
“Who…who’s there?” he tried to call out, but his voice came out barely more than a whisper. He started to tip toe to the door when a realization dawned on him.
“For crying out loud!” he snarled to himself, “You’re a shinobi Kiba, act like one.” He walked quickly to the door, knowing that some weapons were hidden in the hall if he needed them. He opened it slowly to reveal Naruto, dripping wet, eyes wide and chest heaving.
“Naruto?”
“H…hey Kiba…I was…” There was another flash of lightning, a roar of thunder, and Naruto practically tackled Kiba to get inside. Kiba leapt to one side, and slammed the door after Naruto got inside. Naruto collapsed onto the floor with a hiss of pain.
“What happened to you?” Kiba asked, kneeling next to him. Naruto spent a moment or two getting his breathing under control, and then sighed heavily.
“Sorry for showin’ up like this. I got back from a mission earlier, and was headed home from my debriefing when the storm hit. I was just gonna make my way home through it, but that last bolt,” Naruto visibly shuddered, “it struck a tree that I was running by. It was so close it knocked me off my feet, and I think I twisted my ankle. I didn’t think I’d make it home, and I knew your house was close, so I came here. Hope you don’t mind.” Naruto said trying to hide a grimace of pain.
“That’s fine man. C’mon, lets get you out of those wet clothes. Which ankle did you twist?” Kiba asked, and set Akamaru on the floor. There was another crash of thunder, though neither of them noticed this one.
“My left.” Naruto said. Kiba kneeled and checked his ankle to be sure it was just a sprain and not a break. When Kiba looked up he saw blood trickling down Naruto’s face.
“You’re bleeding!” Kiba cried.
“What?” Naruto asked, looking confused.
“C’mon, let’s get you to the bathroom.” Kiba said, and threw Naruto’s left arm over his shoulder to help him up. He helped Naruto limp to the downstairs restroom, and set him down on the toilet. Naruto unzipped his jacket and pulled it off, then peeled his shirt from his chest and pulled it over his head. Kiba grabbed a towel and gently dried Naruto’s hair, and untied his headband. The blood was trickling down from a small slash across the very top part of his forehead, where the headband didn‘t cover. Kiba gently cleaned the wound with some disinfectant, and bandaged it. Then he washed the blood from Naruto’s face.
“Thanks, Kiba.” Naruto said.
“Don’t mention it, you’d do the same for me.” Kiba said, putting the medical supplies away. Naruto had managed to get his right sandal off, but when he tried to get his left off he gasped in pain.
“Let me help you with that.” Kiba said, and got on one knee in front of Naruto. He gently undid the sandals straps, and slowly pulled it from his foot.
“Need help with the pants?” Kiba asked as he got to his feet, then thought about what he’d asked and blushed a little, but was sure his tattoos would hide it.
“Um…no…I, I think I can handle my pants.” Naruto stammered, a little embarrassed himself. Naruto stood and started to undo his pants, and Kiba quickly spun in place.
“I’ll, um…go get some dry clothes for you.” Kiba said, and left the room, closing the door behind him. He started for his room when a thought occurred. He went back and stood in front of the door.
“Naruto?” Kiba called.
“Yeah?” Naruto called back, though he sounded hesitant.
“Um…boxers or briefs?” Kiba asked.
“…boxers.” Naruto called. Kiba stepped away from the bathroom door and hurried up to his room. He went through his drawers and pulled out a pair of sweat pants, a shirt, and a pair of his boxers (which were black with red paw prints). He walked back to the door and knocked gently.
“Cover up real quick.” Kiba called, and slid the door open slowly. Naruto stood there with the towel covering his crotch, looking slightly embarrassed.
“Here’s some clothes.” Kiba said, and set them on the sink counter, and backed out the door. He waited outside the door again for Naruto to finish dressing. After another couple of minutes, Naruto opened the door and limped out.
“Let me…” Kiba started, but Naruto shook his head.
“It’s already feelin’ better, I just need to rest.” he was barely limping, and had stopped shaking completely.
“Then let’s go to bed.” Kiba said.
“That’s ok, I’ll sit down in the living room for a little while and then head home.” Naruto said, and walked into the living room and plopped down on the couch.
“Naruto, it’s still pouring outside, and its not supposed to stop until tomorrow morning at the earliest. Stay the night, it’ll give your clothes a chance to dry.” Kiba said from the doorway. Naruto looked to the window, and frowned in concentration. After a few seconds, he sighed, and turned to look at Kiba.
“Where do I sleep?” he asked.
“I can’t put you in my mom or Hana’s room, they’d smell your scent on their stuff and freak. You’ll have to share with me.”
“With all these rooms, you don’t have a guest room?” Naruto asked skeptically.
“Most of the extra rooms are storage, the ones that aren’t being used right now are set up to be used for storage.”
“Why do you need so much storage space?”
“We care for a lot of dogs here, we have to have enough food, treats, toys, and medical supplies.”
“…Ok.” Naruto said with a shrug. Kiba led him upstairs to his room, Akamaru following close behind. Halfway up the stairs, Naruto stumbled, and Kiba grabbed his shoulders and pulled him close to keep him from tumbling down.
“Thanks.” Naruto said, breathing hard from the scare.
“Sure.” Kiba said back, looking down to were Naruto could have fallen.
“…You can let go now.” Naruto said with a chuckle.
“Hmm…oh, yeah, sorry.” Kiba replied with a grin. He let go of Naruto, but remained ready to grab him again if he tumbled. They made it to the top without further incident, and walked down the hall to Kiba’s room. Kiba opened the door and Akamaru ran inside and leapt up to the bed, turned in a circle twice and promptly fell asleep.
“At least its big enough for the three of us.” Kiba said, and stepped to one side of the bed.
“…Yeah.” Naruto said awkwardly.
“What’s wrong?” Kiba asked as he pulled his shirt off.
“Well…I usually sleep in my underwear. Is that ok?”
“Sure. That’s usually how I sleep too, I was hoping you wouldn’t mind.”
“Ok, that’s good to know.” Naruto said as he stripped down too. Kiba finished taking his clothes off and threw back the blankets from his bed. He climbed in and pulled the covers back up over him. Naruto flipped back the covers from his side and climbed in next to Kiba.
“You sleep with the light on?” Kiba asked.
“What…oh sorry.” Naruto started to climb back out of the bed.
“Nah, I’ll get it.” Kiba said, and jumped out of the bed. He walked to the door, and flipped the switch. Naruto didn’t see him do that, he was too busy watching Kiba’s butt shake back and forth in his boxers. They were red, with black paw prints, and they seemed a size too small for the dog nin. Naruto rolled onto his side away from Kiba, hoping to hide his erection. Kiba got back into the bed and yawned loudly.
“Good night.” he said, and made a satisfied sigh as he got comfortable.
“Good night.” Naruto whispered back, keeping his back to Kiba. He felt Kiba wiggle around a little, and finally settle into place. Naruto’s heart was pounding in his chest, though he really couldn’t understand why. His mind had always been full of Sakura (and Sasuke), and being attracted to Kiba was something that had never entered his mind. He yawned, despite his pounding heart and found himself falling asleep. He had one final thought before he fell asleep…
Next time I’m alone with a shadow clone….
