For Sunday
Got this in my email. To the Alumni reading this, please remember that there are students in the audience. Those whose minds we should be shaping.

Dear Fellow Alumni:
Certain groups within the Ateneo community have declared this Sunday ANIMO ATENEO...YES, WE CAN! Day. For those watching the Ateneo-La Salle game in Araneta Coliseum, WE are ENCOURAGED to wear a real BLUE/WHITE ATENEO SHIRT to the game. I guess this is a way to show our support for the team. However, I would like to take this a step further. When we come to the game and wear that shirt, let us not forget what we, in fact, support.
We support the tradition of EXCELLENCE... OF GIVING OUR BEST AND DOING WHAT IS BEST! Regardless of team (basketball, football, chess, tennis... or even piko) and regardless of outcome, we are going to show what we mean by excellence. We shall come up with a team with great CHARACTER! and by TEAM, that includes US, the crowd. We shall cheer our hearts out to celebrate this excellence... in playing, in propelling our boys to excellence, and yes, in praying.
When we wear that Ateneo shirt, we will wear it with pride... not because we look down on our adversaries but because we will show true SPORTSMANSHIP. One that will promote FAIR PLAY and PRODUCTIVE COMPETITION. Whatever the score is, we will remain HONORABLE and we will not allow something pure as genuine athletic challenge to be corrupted by commercialism and personal gains. But we will always protest with DIGNITY and SELF-RESPECT.
We will STAND BY OUR TEAM until the final buzzer. And we will continue to walk with them in their journey into life itself. In VICTORY and DEFEAT, with short-comings or with flawlessness, we will take our boys, as with the other youth under our wings, as real persons who have lives beyond basketball... beyond the competition. We will not judge them as players with talents, great or otherwise, but regard them as gifted young men who are still in the process of understanding those gifts.
At the end of the day, we will be WINNERS for we will help one another make the RIGHT CHOICE: the best plays, the loudest cheers, the most beautiful smiles, the sincerest prayers. We will go home tired but HAPPY... because we will have chosen the ATENEO not just for its people but more because of what the COMMUNITY and the INSTITUTION stand for. We shall choose to wear the shirt because WE BELIEVE... and WE ACCEPT.
