MNFURS: Recognition w/o being an attention whore

Jun 01, 2012 12:03

This is a personal journal, and though it pertains to mnfurs, I am speaking now without my "mnfurs hat" on.

In the aftermath of the spring picnic it... irritates me... that lots of people still look to Kellic, Flip and Charles as the people "incharge" of the group. I am not looking for thanks and praise for when I run/help to run an event, but I am looking for a text book version of what happened so that everyone is on the same page for who to turn to if a problem arises, for praises and criticisms, and overall just to avoid general confusion. Quite a few people thought that the Spring Picnic was run by Kellic, or Flip or Charles like I mentions, when in fact, the entire thing (for better or worse) was planned and implemented by Lego and myself (with a lot of onsight help from all those who volunteered to cook food, help clean up, etc).

It's an assumption that those on the steering group have - that we are all highly visible and everyone knows who we are and knows what we are here for. The role of this group of people is constantly evolving, but the basis is we are here to give chaos to order... or perhaps it's the other way around (except without turning everyone into mindless cybernetic zombies). We are here to facilitate and to (in theory), help organize and help others to organize furry events in the Minnesota area + marketing and PR and other things here and there.

So obviously we are not visible enough. Bump up visibility and some will label you as an attention whore; even if not your intent. The steering group is mentioned on MNFurs.org and all of the people on the "board" are named. The meetings, which we have every month on the 7th, are open invite. How far do we go? I suspect a lot of time will soon be given to try to come up with an answer.
