I've been busy all weekend and I haven't had time to do my usual Colditz post - so I thought I'd dash off some screencaps of Robert Vaughn in The Mind of Mr Soames instead. He plays Dr Bergen, a famous neurosurgeon who is going to bring the titular Mr Soames (Terence Stamp) out of the coma he's been in since birth.
We first see Bergen trying to comfort a small child on a plane...
Nigel Davenport plays Dr Maitland, who sees Soames as a sort of Skinnerian experiment. Bergen who is an empathic human being and a father of three, sees Soames as a small child who needs to be loved and played with. Donal Donnelly is the third actor in these scenes. He plays junior Dr Allan who is caught in the middle between these two (but gradually inclines to Dr Bergen's way of looking at things.
Playing with Soames, teaching him to use a spoon...
But things go terribly wrong when Soames gets upset and runs away from "home".
In brief, a great little movie from the early 70s with a lovely role for a bearded Robert Vaughn. I know if I needed to be woken up from a coma I'd like to be treated by Dr Bergan (and most emphatically, NOT Dr Maitland!)
