When my mother-in-law was still alive, this would’ve been impossible! And, that was if my husband’s family managed to get together- not! Still, it’s a nice thought…
What's sad is that I've actually known families exactly like your saying: Completely dysfunctional and incapable to spending more than 30 minutes together before the brass knuckles come out and everyone starts going at it--verbally or physically.
I suppose I should be grateful that my dad's entire family has chosen to ignore my existence since his death back in December 1999 considering that I inherited the Hatfield-and-McCoy type feud that my dad started with his family back before I was born.
My dad's family is actually a bit worse than your dad's. I inherited a family feud from my dad. Although a few of my cousins turned up at his funeral they barely spoke to me while they were there and they've never been in touch with me since then (DEC-1999).
A couple years ago, I found out that one of my dad's female cousins actually had the gall to remain in touch with my mom's sister who's kept her up to date on all my comings and goings. My aunt caught the sharp side of my tongue over her part in that when I found out about it.

That’s a lovely thought. Totally impossible if you include my siblings under the umbrella of “entire dysfunctional family” but lovely nonetheless.
