Studio Remodel and other news

Jul 04, 2007 10:58

(You will be getting this mailed to you this week.)

We are a couple of weeks into the summer schedule, and I am eagerly looking forward to the fall. The studio remodel should be finished by then, and we will be back in the downstairs studio. There may be a few things that will still be in progress at that point, but I anticipate enough will be done so that we can get back downstairs on September 4.

Things that you can expect from the remodel:

1. The wooden closet doors will be replaced by frameless mirrored doors, thereby giving us a 6' expanse of mirror so that you can check out your alignment at any time during your lesson without having to adjust yourself to the slant of the floor mirror (which won’t be taking up any space). Also, I will be able to see you from every angle and catch that funny little jaw thing you do. You know who you are.

2. The studio now has sliding doors so that you have a little more privacy.

3. New lighting, both general and task, to better illuminate your music and your beautiful faces.

4. A new music stand that doesn’t come apart when you pull up on the pole (Dave’s picture will probably still be on the back of it).

5. New comfy seating while you wait.

6. An entertainment center that Bill is building to house a new TV on which I can show your high definition videos of vocal folds in action, sopranos-a-singing, etc.

7. Newly tiled floors and freshly painted walls, in bold and inspiring colors.

8. A new studio bathroom that won’t creep you out if you have to use it.

9. A brightly lit stairwell to make your way into the studio (no more gloomy paneling).

10. Easy access to both the CD recorder and the cassette recorder to record your lessons

Other things on my wish list include a new digital piano, amplifier, and a webcam to record your lessons visually as well.

We will maintain the summer schedule through 8/23. As I have done for the last few years, I will be taking off the last week of the month (beginning 8/27) since school schedules vary so greatly between districts and between private and public schools. Plus I am teaching vocal pedagogy at Carroll College in the fall and will be frantically getting my syllabus ready for the fall semester.

Lessons will resume in the studio on 9/4, the day after Labor Day. At that time, I will hand out the 2007-2008 policies and schedule for recitals and any times I will be taking off for the fall semester (through 12/31). Students, please put these in your 3-ring binders and parents, please ask to see them! (You all know that you are supposed to have three ring binders.)

The recital dates will be in there as well. Please note that the spring showcase will be moved to June 8 (tentatively) and will involve a few extra music rehearsals. Ryan Cappleman will be our rehearsal pianist and James Collins will be the final rehearsal/showcase pianist. Ryan will probably play for the senior soloists on the showcase as well.

I would like to advise everyone now that I am raising my rate by $2.00/half hour effective with payments due on or after 9/4. My rate will now be:

30 minutes - $24.00 ($120/5 lessons)
45 minutes - $36.00 ($180/5)
60 minutes - $48.00 ($240/5)

Any payments made to me on or before 8/31 may be made for the old amount. If anyone would like to prepay to save some money, that would be fine. You may prepay for 5 lessons, or 10 or even more!

I’d like to have the fall schedule drawn up as soon as possible. If you wish to keep your current time, or if you need to switch your time, please let me know. I am planning the schedule to be as follows:

Monday/Tuesday 3:30-8:00
Wednesday 4:00-6:30
Thursday 12:30-2:00, 3:30-8:00
Friday: 3:30-6:00
