Qualities of a Good Sound:

Freely produced
Pleasant to listen to
Loud enough to carry
Rich, ringing and resonant
Connected from note to note (legato)
Consistently produced
Vibrant
Flexibly expressive

A balanced onset is characterized by simultaneous (almost) coordination of the breath and the voice and requires a FULL opening of the glottis. [We will all be working much more on deeper - note, not BIGGER - breathing as well as practicing suspensions, which I have avoided because I was afraid that you all would "set" the breath like I did in college when no one explained it to me.]

"You have to be singing on the INSIDE before you start singing on the OUTSIDE." Ruthanne Crow, one of the volunteer teachers.
