Tron: Legacy (no spoilers)

Yesterday I went to see Tron: Legacy with cassen_grrrl . My expectations were quite low for the movie, specially being a sequel of a rather old movie. I am old enough to have seen Tron on movie theaters back in the 80's. Back then I was a kid, computers were a big thing but just for the rich or those who worked for companies who required them, so everything related to computers was interesting. And here it was, a movie about the inners of how a computer system worked, just like an alternate version of our world, where programs were like people. Ok, enough with the first Tron movie.

Tron: Legacy was pretty good, I really enjoyed it. The flow of the story is excellent so I never was bored about a particular situation. The story is pretty good, slightly far-fetched at some points, but those far-fetched parts were just plot-devices and they never part of the main story. There were some typical cliches there, but also non-important.

Another thing that I really enjoyed is that they didn't try to do the first movie again. They only explained what it needed to be explain, but nothing more. So, if you want to know where Tron comes from, who invented the laser, why did he enter the system the first time?, etc. etc. etc, you have to see the first Tron. But if you never saw the first Tron, you can still see and enjoy Tron:Legacy. They also added tons of references for us, who did see the first Tron, to smile at. Example: Who's the OS 12 lead programmer's father (in ENCOM's  meeting room), that ENCOM CEO thanked for helping the company succeed at some point (can't remember his exact words).

The effects were pretty good too, and I really enjoyed they didn't overshadow the story. Special effects help to tell the story, but they are never more important than the story.

Another thing worth mentioning is the music. It was also excellent. I can´t say if it was a modernized version of the first tron music or not, but it´s definitely worth buying. I really like Daft Punk music and the music they made for Tron is wonderful.

So, long story short, go see Tron: Legacy. And, if you can buy or rent (or download) the first Tron movie and see it before you see Tron: Legacy, that would help you understand a few things. Another thing, I barely noticed the 3D effects, but my roommate cassen_grrrl  did notice them. So, in my opinion, the 3D premium price is not worth it, but up to you.
