In the vein of EDMs huge world update I present the ins and outs of my world, not a lot related to character creation but quite a bit of background on whats going down.
The year is 2109, Earth is a divided planet, the United Nations is a memory, NATO is gone, and the European Union collapsed 25 years ago. From the ashes of these organizations rose two new powers, the Alliance of Free Nations and the Coalition of Nationalist States. The AFN consists of America, Britain, Germany, Japan, Australia, Canada, Mexico, India, and France. The CNS consists of Russia, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Libya, Korea (the North won), and Cuba (Castro is dead, but they’re still being dicks.) In the years before and after the superpowers joined forces mankind had made great leaps in space travel technology and had had colonized much of the solar system. Having perfected safe space flight, the people of Earth have swarmed offworld in the hopes of finding a new life or making money on the bare scratched surface of our solar system’s resources. Of course the militaries of the AFN and CNS helped develop space flight and as such have built huge fleets of warships to patrol their trade lanes and installations. This duty is becoming more and more important as, with interplanetary trade came piracy. As it stands, the AFN controls Mars (since the US got there first) and has several domed cities and military installations planetside; it also has orbital stations around Venus and Saturn. The CNS has control of all the moons of Jupiter and it also has several installations orbiting Venus and Saturn, as well as two far flung sites orbiting Neptune. The two entities share control of the Moon, with the AFN on the Western hemisphere and the CNS on the East.
Alongside development of spaceships and orbital stations came the evolution of the modern war vehicle. The tank was unwieldy to get offworld and planes couldn’t fly anywhere but Earth due to the minimal oxygen content on other worlds. The jet problem was easily solved by applying the fusion torch engine to smaller craft, resulting in the propagation of the space-fighter. The tank problem was more difficult until one ingenious weapons designer saw a power-lifting frame being used by a dockworker at a spaceport. The designer saw that if armor plating and weapons were attached there was a viable weapons platform to be had. 10 years later the modern battleframe was becoming a common sight onworld and off. Spaceframes were developed to help combat pirates and rioters on and around space stations, and most warships now carry a standard complement of both.
Unfortunately the last 3 years have seen a drastic increase in violent exchanges between the AFN and the CNS. Disputes over trade lanes, finger pointing over pirate attacks, territory skirmishes on the moon, and a general dislike between the governments of the Alliance and the Coalition have led to a boiling point. Disliking the prospect of a full scale interplanetary war the Alliance called for negotiations, which the Coalition agreed to. The Sol Peace Talks are to be held in neutral space near the inner ring of the asteroid belt at a commercial space station owned by the Utopia Corporation. Security forces are being kept fairly small despite the importance of the delegates, it appears that neither side wishes to make an overt show of military force at a peace summit. Among the security detail for the Alliance is the Nova class frigate AFNS Einstein, which will be patrolling the space near the station for any signs of suspicious activity. The Einstein doubles as a military research vessel and as such is privy to some of the more advanced technologies available to the Alliance, among these are it’s superior sensors, improved engines, and other components too top secret to mention.
You guys will more than likely be onboard the Einstein as I'm going for a militarily themed campaign. Thoughts?
