Closing out 2012

It's been a roller-coaster of a year with family health issues and work challenges, and more on the horizon for 2013.


1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
I took over the EMEIA Asset Operations, managed a team of my own, served eviction notice to our tenant, switched to working from home, and went to Japan. Not in that order.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, for the most part I did not. But yes, I need to take better care next year and am determined to do so.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes, my niece had a baby boy this November.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. My Uncle Jimmy passed on unexpectedly in October.

5. What countries did you visit?
Japan.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
A new driveway, and a bit more harmony.

7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 6th, leaving for Japan. June 29th, hospitalizing my Mom.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting the Passport and heading to Japan.

9. What was your biggest failure?
My work-life balance.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing significant this year.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
... did I mention that trip to Japan? ♥

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Gryphoncat. She elevated herself out of a tough work situation and into somewhere she is happier.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The aforementioned tenant. (Appalled yes, depressed no.) My second-eldest brother for a display of passive aggressive selfishness that was breathtaking.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Travel, Bills, New furnace for the garage.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
JAPAN. Zomg, Japan...

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
You know, I don't think I have one this year.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? Fortunately, about the same.
iii. richer or poorer? Also about the same.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing. I miss feeling creative.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Honestly? Working.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
Traveling our traditional 500 miles around the families to see family.

21. What Journal users did you meet for the first time?
None.

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
I just keep falling....

23. How many one-night stands?
LOL. Got the best, thanks!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Started watching Ever After, gave it up shortly into the second season. Just... meh. TV.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hating is a waste of good energy.

26. What was the best book you read?
Gotten a bit fond of the Sue Grafton mystery series.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
None this year...

28. What did you want and get?
My family. ♥

29. What did you want and not get?
Job security. (wry grin)

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
There were a lot of good ones, and we got out more this year. My favorites of them: Avengers, Men in Black, Brave, Wreck It Ralph.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Man, I hardly remember. This summer was pretty rough. Probably Taipei Tokyo. Still old enough not to give a damn.

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
It was a darn good year. But I could have done without the scare around my Mom's health.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
"Only wimps need style."

34. What kept you sane?
Nan. Pure and simple.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Fancy? No one. Admire: Barney Frank, and Rachel Maddow.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The Presidential election.

37. Who did you miss?
Only my elusive sanity.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Every one of them.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.
Sometimes you just have to step up to the plate.
