I'm quite tired

As I mentioned, there was the Halloween Dance the Yearbook Staff did last night. And this, my friends, is how things have gone.

It's taken us four days to decorate the gym. We had help from Ms. Adams the art teacher (like as far as creating the picture backdrop and setting for instance). We stayed until about 7 something on Thursday night and got the bulk of everything done. My dad was supposed to bring some hay from my brother's at 11 that morning, while in Yearbook fourth period. I called my dad at about 11:10, and he said he was about to leave the house. Fifth period came around, still no dad. I used Ms. Bennett's cell phone and called him.

[Me] When you said you were about to be on your way, did you mean to get the hay, or to come deliver it?
[Dad] Have you not gotten any of the messages I've left you?
[Me] Messages?
[Dad] The hay's been up there since 10:00. Aubrey Ray told me to leave it by one of the gym doors by the cafeteria (which was the dance entrace, all the way across the gym from the stage). He said he'd get the message to you. After you called me the first time, I thought you were someone asking about my trailer, then I thought about it being you, and called back to the office. The secretary lady answer and said you were just in there.

I told Doc and Matt at lunch. Mr. A. Ray didn't give Doc the message until after 12:30 when his class was coming back from lunch. Matt, Doc, Chris, and I all got the hay during lunch (in garbage bags) put them on the stage. The janitors were close to throwing them away.

We put the hay out in the scene later and the stage came out looking great. We got the gym decorated for the most part with just a few things left to do. We had a few people (cheerleaders, Spirit Squad; memebers and sponsors of each) and faculty see the gym. We had people impressed left and right. We had one of the best looking, best decorated dances the school's probably ever had. And the best part? We only paid a fraction of the cost of the other dances. To top it all off, we had really good t-shirts (which we took some more orders on and sent in again), the DJ from last year's Prom that everyone thought was awesome, and we were going to raffle off Ziploc bags of candy (not BIG ones, but normal sized) every 15 minutes or so. Costumes were optional, because we figured some people wanted to take serious pictures. Tiffany and MiRanda both stayed after on Thursday to help. Tiffany wants to be on Yearbook next year, and Candice's friend Annie (who has helped Candice a good bit) wants to as well.

Friday came around and we worked in the gym more during the day. Annie came and helped some more. Between sixth and seventh, I waited for Kristal and asked if she was going to the dance. I told her she really should, because she said she probably wasn't. I didn't ask her. After seventh, I went upstairs to find Matt (seventh was cut short for the pep rally in the old gym). Doc kept his class after and I caught up with Kristal. I told her I shouldn't have done that, that I was actually going to ask her to the dance. She smiled the whole time (which she always does at the mention of me or when I speak to her) and told me thanks, but she just already had plans. Understandable and expected, considering how late I asked her. If we hadn't had a useless Junior meeting in Homeroom, I could have had an entire period to talk to her on Wednesday, but noooooo. Oh well, at the rate of my persistance, something will give in eventually, and it won't be me. I just hope we have a normal Homeroom next Wednesday.

Matt and I went home right after the pep rally to his house and got some money. He showed me his "shrine" to Ashley (which consisted of three pictures of her) and then we went to my house. I got some money, batted off Nikki, the kids, and her friend Dana (who also knows Matt). We went to Wal-Mart and bought some surge protectors, batteries, etc. This was added with the extention cords from his house. We went BACK to his house and talked to his mom, got dry ice when his dad got home. Then we went to my house for a bit. Everyone went Trick or Treating except my mom. We ordered a pizza to take to the school and waited here for a while. We left and went to get it, then got to the school. We had to track down Mr. A. Ray and get the key to the gym and went in. We ate, then got to work and started final touches at about 7 something. We had a few people come in to help, but they were in out (like Caitlin and MiRanda because they were on Spirit Squad and performed during the game at Half Time). Someone in Glen Allen won the TV, and Doc won $100.

At one point, I got to talking to Doc about various things. I mentioned my weird thing with society. Like all the drinking, smoking, drugs, sex, etc.

[Me] Yeah, it's weird. I was on another of my morality kicks today too. In Advanced Algebra, Cooper, Kyle, and Kevin were talking about how Cooper got the drunkest he'd ever been some weekend or something. Kevin said something, and eventually asked me if I'd have had anything to drink if I had been with them. I told them I'd have passed. They said, "What if Kristal offered to screw you." "Still would pass, thanks." "Cindy Crawford?" "Still." "Dude, you're weird. What about Britney Spears." "Ack, no way at all. I can't stand her." Kyle agreed with me about Britney, but for the most part...
[Doc] Yeah, I agree with you. I'm just not into all that.
[Me] I just can't stand society now. Like how I can be leaving campus, and a car of about five girls isn't even off campus and all of them have a cigarette.
[Doc] Mmm.
[Me] Of course you know, poor Kevin. Since he started dating Emily, she's just corrupted him a lot.
[Doc] I know, I thought Kevin was a really good kid.
[Me] He was, and kind of is, Emily's just ruined him. Drinking, smoking, and I know in English the other day he was talking about doing it with her, and Cooper mentioning how everyone is scared their first time (even though he's a virgin). Samantha was telling them about the places around a lake and Emily's big SUV, bleh...
[Doc] Yeah, I was going to ask her in class one day as a joke if she had played with his weiner, but I figured she probably had and better not say it (exact words).
[Me] And you know, it's the weirdest thing that set me off on this morality trip. I sometimes talk to Krystal Conteras in English (this is not Kristal Lawrence, the girl I like). One day she was telling Muriel about some mark on her arm. I asked her what it was. She said it was from a pregnancy test. I asked if it was negative, and she told me the results were not back, but she knew it was. I figured before she wasn't a virgin from things she had said, so... I don't know why this bothered me. It set off some weird fuse in me, and I've been on the morality trip every so often since then.
[Doc] Yeah, see, I'm a firm believer in having sex with someone only if you really, really love them.
[Me] Heh, from the way you talk sometimes, I'd never be able to tell.
[Doc] *laughs* Yeah, but I really am. See, in high school, it was always so much lust, and that's why people had sex when they did. I wasn't like that, and didn't date many girls because of it.
[Me] But when you did do it, it was love.
[Doc] Exactly. As a result of not dating a whole lot of girls in high school, there was the assumption I was gay. And now, being single still, people think that even now. (-Note: A lot of people do make the assumption he's gay, but I've been pretty before he's not, he's said he wasn't before pretty much)
[Me] And of course, you're not, correct?
[Doc] Right.
[Me] Matt, on the other hand...
[Doc] *laughs* Yeah, I'm starting worry about him... (-Note2: Long-running joke, we taped some body outlines on the gym floor, and Matt accidentally touched my butt while doing so)

Anyway, the dance didn't start until about 15 after 10:00 because a player on our team got hurt pretty bad and had to go to the hospital. We still were far ahead, with the score being approximately 50-20. Our regular season stats being nine wins and one loss. I didn't dance with anyone, nor did Matt, but we had a fair number of people come. We really didn't do too bad, and I think word will get out how great the dance was. One of the best moments of the night was Doc, Matt, Caitlin, George, Candice, Tiffany, Annie, and of course myself, getting together in our backdrop and picture setting, and Bruckner's took a group picture that Doc will be buy for us. I really want to see this picture. Doc also took pictures of the dance before things got messed up any, and I'm going to get some of those too. When I do, I'll be sure to show all of them.

We all agreed, that no matter what, we would have done it all over again simply because we had so much fun with the project. Doc said as far as people coming in, we had to expect the worst and hope for the best, which worked fairly decently. He said this was an experiment, and probably the most fun with any project he's ever had. Regardless of everything, I enjoyed things. And that, is the best Halloween I've yet to have.

Money we made with shirts and the dance: $730
Approximate profit: $500
The time I spent with my friends decorating and at the dance: Priceless
