i'll just write what the notice here says;
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The College community was informed this morning of the tragic death of one of our Year 11 students, Matt Van N. The entire community is shocked and saddened by Matt's death and we are doing all that we can to support each other through this difficult time. Our deepest sympathy goes to all those close to Matt and his family.
The staff were briefed early this morning before we informed the students. A number of steps have been taken to support students to cope with their grief. A team of students counsellors and trained psychologists have been working in the school today with the students who have identified themselves as needing support. The shock of Matt's death has been felt by both staff and students alike. Groups of staff and students have been encouraged to express their feelings and to support one another in any way they can.
People respond to situations such as this in many different ways and our entire community will be called on to support those in greatest need. Students were given the option of leaving school after parental contact had been made appropriate arrangements put in place. Students who remained until the end of the school day, had the choice of attending their classes or seeking support from one of the team of professionals working out of the Senior Student Centre. Additional support will remain in the school for the present.
Parents can support their children by allowing them to talk and encouraging them to maintain contact with their friends. You may notice that that your child is emotional and uncertain about how to deal with what happened. This is a normal reaction, just be patient with their feelings. At times like this it is important to maintain as many routines as possible, with particular attention on healthy eating, sleeping and exercise.
When funeral arrangements have been organised, we will provide the information.
Please feel free to contact me or Senior Campus Principal, Greg C.
Yours most sincerely,
Gail D.
College Principal
i hope that Ben, Shorty's best friend, is okay. he looked really upset today. i wanted to give him a hug, but Catherine stole him away. it was just a bad bad day all around, everyone's been crying or looking after the people who have been crying. the assembly today was so heartbreaking. Mr C. told us all that he thought we should know and stuff. i felt like crying at the start, but didnt. i ended up crying right at the end though. i didnt know such a thing could effect so many people. the whole school was in pieces :(
i hope we get back on track soon.
and i hope alot of people go to the funeral. that would be really nice to see. alot of support and stuff for the people most closest to Shorty and all.
also, his dad is in a critical condition. i'm not sure if he was the driver or the passenger. the worst thing i can think of, is what if he doesn't know his son is dead?
RIP SHORTY. WE MISS YOU SO MUCH :(
