In the last comment, I spoke about how much I liked Jothbert’s love for his family. This bit showed off Jared’s mother, and her devotion to him. Loved that the sword was there with her! (thank you Chad!)
The scene where Jared finally confronts Omundson (rach-patooii!) was no joke. It was really kind of awful, with Jensen setting his men on fire, melting rock and men jumping to their death, but what else could he do? It was definitely a heavy scene to read, but a well-written one.
This though, was just what I wanted-maybe nicer than the man deserved: Jared used his sword to direct a stream of blue-white flame at Omundson. The man barely had time to register that he was in danger before he was engulfed completely in Cold Fire. He never even had a chance to scream. Within seconds there was nothing left of him but ashes on the wind.
What a vivid image! I was torn between cheering and wincing, but really, it was a much kinder end than he deserved. His death was quick and probably relatively painless, compared to what he did to Jothbert and what he planned for Jared. I’m not sure if you could tell, but I didn't like him.
Afterward, with Jensen well again and everything heading towards the happy ending, Jensen communicates with all the ability of a tree stump! There he was, trying to protect Jared, but breaking his heart by mistake. Still, hurting Jared aside, Jensen was right to put the brakes to things between them. Their time apart gave Jared the chance to become king on his own, make valuable decisions, and settle in to being his own person.
I loved this line from the love confession: “I fell in love with you when all I could see of you was your beautiful tilted eyes. And watching you struggle and fight and persevere when you were being held captive only made me love you more.”
These boys didn’t even need a childhood hand-fasting-they were made for each other! I’m glad they got the fairy tale ending they worked so hard for!
This was a great adventure and I had so much fun reading your story! Jared was just such a wonderful character, brave and resourceful, with a big heart-you did a beautiful job of bringing him to life, Jensen as well. I loved what we learned of their different cultures, and how nicely they dovetailed, making both their countries stronger for it. You did an *excellent* job of making me hate Omundson (sorry Timothy)-it was fun!
Thanks so much for sharing this! I’m glad I read it today because I needed something good today! ♥
Yes, the ending was kind of grisly, but they were outnumbered and there was no doubt they would have killed Jared and Jensen without blinking. Omundson did try to kill Jensen, he just didn't have enough potion for Jensen's size. (He's big boned! *Snorts*) But I know what you mean. And yes, in a way rotting in a cell would have been a better sentence for Omundson, but then there would be the chance that he might escape. It's better he's wiped off the board.
At first I had the ages changed by a year and Jared took a whole year to confront Jensen and re-proclaim his love. But it really wasn't very satisfying. Jared knew what he wanted and he didn't want to waste any more time waiting for it/him. And Jensen just didn't want to be some Stoljkhom syndrome baby napper. Four years age difference is a LOT at that age. But we both KNOW they belong together so why dance around it.
And I am sending out positive vibes to Timothy. I know he's not the evil menace I made him out to be. I have him and JDM and a couple of others on rotation to be the big bad. Unfortunately it was just his turn : P
I'm so happy you enjoyed this. After this completely disheartening year of stupid politics and terrible pandemic I just didn't have the heart to write anything too angsty. I needed to hide in this fairy tale for a while. Besides everyone needs more happy ever afters, especially after a bad day.
((((HUGS YOU)))) You have a better day tomorrow hon. ♥
