Inspired by The Harold Song, by Ke$ha (my guilty pleasure shhhh). Louis and Harry just give me feelings, man.
Louis is smart. Louis is really, really smart, smarter than people give him credit for. Smart enough to see the way Harry looks at him, smart enough to see the hope and admiration and love in his eyes. Smart enough to see the pain he feels when Louis is out with Eleanor, smart enough to see Harry lying to the others and dying inside. Smart enough to know that he can't be with Eleanor, no matter what management says, smart enough to know that this relationship will eventually kill both Harry and himself. But he's also smart enough to see that acting on his feelings towards Harry will cause more pain. So, so much pain, Louis wonders if it's worth it. Smart enough to know it won't be easy, to know that letting Harry go, rejecting his advances, even crushing his hopes, would be better in the long run. He knows they say true love hurts, but he's smart enough to know it wouldn't last, would never last. He knows they'd burn bright and fast, so bright while they lasted, but over so quickly, the star-crossed lovers of their generation. He can imagine what loving Harry would involve, how hard they would love and how hard they would rage. He sees Harry and he only sees temporary: Harry is destined to flash and burn, he looks at Louis with such intensity Louis knows he'll wear himself out. Louis'd give it all not to be sleeping alone, but never when the price is Harry's destruction. He loves him by rejecting him, he saves him by crushing him. And he hopes he can live with it.
