this is a Judaism rainfall.
Genesis 1: 1-5
When God began to create heaven and earth- the earth being unformed and void, with darkness over the surface of the deep and a wind from God sweeping over the surface of the water- God said, "Let there be light"; and there as light. God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, a first day.
Soh.
Who's this God guy, anyway? And why does He want to create the heaven and the earth? Was He lonely? Was He overcome by the monotony of our little space in space and decide to build the beginning of a civilization? Is creating a civilization fun? Is it hard work? Do you use a regular set of tools to do it, like a hammer and a chisel, or do you use a set of test tubes and beakers? Is there a recipe book for creating planets? Is the earth tasty? Did God dip his finger into it afterwards and say, "Mmmm, that's good earth"?
Why was the world unformed and void? Why wasn't it already formed? Because God didn't touch it yet? Was it in his 'To Do' pile? Exactly HOW unformed and void was the earth? How dark was it? Was it like having the lights off in the house, or was it like closing your eyes? Were it the latter, how could God see the earth at all? Was the sun already there, for that matter? And this wind that was blowing, was it cold from the darkness? Was it warm from an unmentioned sun?
Wait. There was light.
So the sun wasn't there yet? Or was it just not reaching the earth yet 'til it paid the toll to cross the cosmic bridge? Does God decide where the light will flow in the universe? Is God made of light? Would he like to be? And what makes the light so great? Wouldn't ti be cool if the earth were a place of darkness? Would God think that it's cool? Does God not like darkness? Is He afraid of the dark? Does He work to vanquish darkness? Why did God separate the darkness from the light, anyway? Couldn't it have mixed into a milky gray that would wrap around the earth? And where does God come off naming the light and darkness 'Day and Night'? Does He like how it sounds? Do we like how it sounds? And how did darkness know how to lead into daylight? Do they take turns, like it being a profession? Do darkness and light get paid? By God? Is God like the foreman of the universe? If so, does he like the job? Does the pay suck?
Never stop asking questions. It's the only way to find answers.
[THE REAL] QUESTION OF THE DAY: I finished watching Boondock Saints again, and I wondered: Could Buddhists find it reasonable to be able to enjoy a violent movie, or should they turn a blind eye?
