bye, LJ!

I am leaving LJ for political and moral reasons.  If you didn't hear, LJ was bought by a Russian company called Sup that is owned by a tycoon with close ties to the Russian government.  Since the acquisition, several people in Russia have been jailed for their controversial postings.  Posts about bisexuality, fandom, etc have been deliberately excluded from search features in LJ.  Some journals have also been deleted without notice.  Even though users in the US are not really affected, I refuse to put money into an organization that supports censorship in a blogging environment that used to be known for freedom of expression.  If I don't pay for a paid account, I would have to see these horrendous banner ads.  That is unacceptable to me.

Also, I feel that the community has focused less on improving the features of LJ and more time adding advertisements / ways to make money.  They have also started ninja changing features without notifying their customer base.  In fact, it's becoming more and more like xanga and myspace.

My new journal is here.

XOXO!
