All the King's Men is quite possibly the most well-made film I have ever seen.

That said, you probably shouldn't see it if you haven't read the book. Or at least the Cliff Notes.

Meagan, Courtney, Jen and I went to see it tonight. Courtney, Jen and I are all obsessed with the book. Meagan has never read it.

Courtney, Jen and I left the theater shaking our heads, blown away by the sheer brilliance of the cinematography, the lighting, the writing, the acting - everything. Meagan admired the aesthetic quality of the film, but was reeling trying to keep up with the plot.

Admittedly, I had trouble keeping up with the plot. And I know the book backward and forward. I can only imagine what the film would look like to one with no prior knowledge of the plot.

But my God, was it well-made. The filmmaker truly captured the essence of Warren's writing style, something I'd thought would be impossible. The acting was brilliant, particularly in the cases of Sean Penn and Anthony Hopkins. Jude Law was good, but his character (my favorite character in all of literature) was not one that was made to stand out. Also, he has an atrocious Louisiana accent.

I'm rambling. I need to go to bed. Let me just say this - if you have a chance to see this movie, see it. But be prepared.
