This is about Doug the cop and the Nails brothers. Policing must often be thankless, but I bet nothing beats being The Police in a place like the Underground. Seriously, how much do you have to piss off your chief before he sends you down there? D:

FFFFFFF i fucking LOVE this! I was just saying to my rp buds that I'd love to get my hands on something with Dave in it, just to study his character and BAM. Here you are delivering this wonderful piece. We may not know much about him, but damn, you've done a fine job with the brothers interactions, and Dave's whole BEING and just. Argh. Love this. And Doug hitting up Mimi for info, and her 'choice words' for Dave. BRILLIANT. she's a fire cracker'y little thing.
FFF and Doug. Doug doug doug. the poor old fart. Really loved his raw personality here. He's weary of all that shit goin down. Loved the last line especially :)

Dave! I hope we get more of him. So far all we have is a couple of glimpses and Badou saying things like, "I loved my brother, but he was an irresponsible pain in the ass," and for these words to be coming from BADOU of all people...

So glad you liked Doug! He has the lousiest job in that entire series, poor guy.

I love this. It's so completely different than any other take I've read on some of these same themes/characters that I just djfnkjf THIS IS BRILLIANT. UNLIKE THIS REVIEW, WHICH I CAN'T MANAGE AT ALL.

oh goodness, I loved this. I've never been a big fan of first person, but you have such a way with writing it that I barely even notice and I can't imagine it told in any other way. It's so engaging.

Nails saw evil and wanted to write an exposé. Badou sees evil and shoots it in the face

I'm glad you liked it! :D I think stories generally have a person and tense they want to be in...the trick is figuring out which. Doug seemed like a first person kind of guy. I don't think I could write, say, Heine in first person, though. Huh.

Wow, this was great. Very gritty, I was surprised by the interpretation of everyone's characters, but to be honest - I don't look critically at the characters often enough. That's a shortcoming of mine, I tend to look at DOGS and see all the funny and silly moments and forget how hard it is to be these people.

I liked the characterization of Dave, even though not much is known about him. Great contrast between Badou then and now. Neat stuff - thanks for giving Mimi more of a part, she served a nice secondary role under the umbrella of your writing. Ah, Mimi. I love that kid. For serious.

I don't remember - do your narrator and Alexei exist in canon? Or are they just OC's for the purpose of this fic? Either way, they're very believable. You may want to review or beta to double-check spelling/grammar, I dunno. I think I saw some stuff, but I'm still tired =__=

Doug and partner are (very minor) canon characters--partner has never been named, so I called him Alexei at random. That meeting between Doug and Badou with Heine and Naoto lurking in the background is canon, too. It was great because Doug gave Heine this long look and then carefully did not say anything at all. :D And Doug knows Mimi, though it isn't really clear why. Because Mimi knows everyone? (Heh. Mimi. *loves*)

I don't see any grammar stuff, but...I've also read this so many times I'm probably blind to it by now. o_O

You are the master of DOGS fanfics. You don't just do stuff with the main characters. You don't just focus on one aspect of the storyline. You don't just do something with romance or relationships -- at least not with those being the central focus of everything -- and it's something I don't see enough of. In fanfiction in general.

So thank you very, very, much. This...was brilliant. Again. <3 I can't say I've seen anyone take a look at this world through Doug's eyes and that you took that up is just fantastic. I love this so much. I wish I could write this well...

It seems like there should be more Doug fic, though. He has such a great outside POV. He knows everyone a little bit, but no one all that well. Fun times, fandom! *tries to drag people with me* :D

Side characters never get enough love. It's like some people just refuse to even acknowledge they exist. Which is silly, because they're important. In their own way. :D
