Can anyone make recommendations of an English-speaking monastery?
I am looking for monasteries (one for women and one for men) that might be willing to help our mission work by taking guests for a few weeks. The aim would be give them a feel for Orthodoxy in general, and the monastic life in particular, and to help them with some spiritual guidance.
The people have little formal education, and cannot read very well. But if Orthodoxy is "caught" rather than "taught", they should benefit from time spent in a monastery. Neither is a native English speaker, and we have translated the Hours and Readers service into their languages (North Sotho and Zulu), and we are setting them to music (mostly Russian-style). We would like them to see how these services are used in a monastic setting.
If anyone would like to know more about the background, please contact me by e-mail, and I could give more details. But I'm really looking for contacts with suitable monasteries now.
