   After growing up under an authoritarian government based on an evil racist ideology, I'm naturally anti-authoritarian -- that is, liberal.
2. charles williams:
   Charles Williams is one of my favourite authors.

   Beat generation authors, disaffiliates, punx to monks, youth of the apocalypse, death to the world
4. english history:
   I'm interested in family history, and half my ancestors came from England (and the rest from Scotland, Ireland and Wales, at least as far back as I've been able to trace)
5. holy fools:
   See counterculture -- holy fools are the ultimate expression of counter culture. And the Fool of the Tarot plays the pivotal role in Charles Williams's novel "The Greater Trumps." The root meaning of "silly" is blessed.
6. literary fantasy:
   See Charles Williams -- and his fellow Inklings J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewas, who between them wrote quite a lot of fantasy literature.
7. mythology:
   Nicolas Berdyaev said "Myth is a reality immeasurably greater than concept." And the literary fantasy of Williams and the other Inklings is based on various strands of mythology
8. peace:
   I remember the "annus mirabilis", 1989, when dictators were toppled all over, including P.W. Botha here at home. The Cold War was ending, and there seemed to be a real hope of peace. But Saddam Hussein had to invade Kuwait, and the Wars of the Yugoslav Succession put an end to that hope. Well, almost.

10. witchhunts:
    Witch hunting seems to be growing in the last couple of decades, and hundreds of people have been killed because they are suspected witches.
