I mentioned
The ragwitch by Garth Nix, which I had just bought. I saw a review in the newspaper, which recommended it, and then saw it the next day in a bookshop, so I bought it. From the blurb it looked a bit Alan Garnerish.
I've now read more of it (though still have not reached the end), and I think if
dharmabum liked His dark materials, she might well like this. In my view it is not up to Alan Garner's standard, but it's at least as good as Philip Pullman's books, if not better.
I still haven't got to see the latesrt Harry Potter move, nor The lion, the witch and the wardrobe, though I hope to see them soon.
