Orthodox mission congregation in Tembisa

Mar 01, 2005 07:03

Over the last few weeks we've been busy helping to establish a new Orthodox mission congregation at Tembisa, about 50 kilometres away. They are friends and neighbours of Fr Simon Thamaga, who died last September. A group of friends and neighbours who attended his funeral were so impressed that they decided they wanted to join the Orthodox Church, even though the funeral was held in a borrowed African Methodist Episcopal Church. I've put a more detailed report in the orthodoxy community for anyone who's interested.

We will probably be spending every Sunday there between now and Easter, and on Easter Sunday evening (1 May) we hope to be visiting friends and family in the UK. For me it will be the first time I have been there for more than 30 years, so it will be interesting to see how things have changed from the Swinging Sixities. For Val it will be the first visit in 9 years, since she won a ticket to the cup final at Wembley stadium,
