I... should probably start from the beginning. Our Master's friend, Xehanort, was also in attendance to mine and Terra's Mark of Mastery exam, and once it was over the Master was given notice of the Unversed threatening the worlds. It was that time when Xehanort went missing and our Master sent Terra and I out to find him and also protect the worlds from the Unversed threat. It wasn't until later we learned it was all part of Xehanort and his apprentice's plans to lead Terra and Ven away from home. Terra... had darkness within his heart, and because of that Terra failed the exam. Xehanort used that to manipulate Terra and drive him further apart from us.
Xehanort was trying to bring upon the Keyblade War that was only heard about in legends, and he needed Ven to make this χ-blade. We all fought... Terra ran off to fight Xehanort while I had to protect Ven and fight off this man in an eyepatch. I don't know exactly what happened after I was knocked unconscious, but the χ-blade was created and I fought Vanitas while he possessed Ventus and wielded it. Mickey helped me stop him and destroy the χ-blade, but with its destruction the world we were on at the time was destroyed.
When I woke up after that, Terra was missing and Ven's heart was asleep, so he couldn't wake up. I took Ven back home and sealed him in the castle to keep him safe and went off to find Terra. Terra... I found him in Radiant Garden, but he had also been possessed and it wasn't really him anymore. We fought and Terra tried to regain control, but Xehanort used his own Keyblade on himself and they started to fall into the darkness. I dove in after Terra, but there was no way both of us could escape. There was only a small opening and it kept getting further away, so I used my armor and Keyblade to carry Terra out of the darkness while I stayed behind.

[Wow. Holy...wow, Aqua. Kairi's just going to reflect on the story in silence because what a sacrifice, not to mention the story itself is terribly sad.]
It's...so much like what's happened to us the last few years. Riku had darkness in his heart, and Maleficent and Ansem...Xemnas...Xehanort's Heartless, it's hard to think of who hadn't manipulated him. Maleficent did first if I recall, telling him that Sora didn't care about us anymore now that he had new friends, about how Sora was the master now. We saved him eventually, but he's changed. The Riku that's here? He's not as far along as I am, and I'm glad. I don't want him to go through it all again even though I know he has to.
Ven...[She's going to pause a little to think this over.] What can you tell me about Vanitas and Ven? Anything? The only man I know with an eyepatch is Xigbar, but he couldn't have been around back then. [No, but Braig could. Wow.] Unless...
What castle? Is his body still there? Does this Ven know? [So many questions, Kairi, and she can't help but let her voice slip a pitch higher while trying to keep a grip on everything.] You've been in the darkness since then...for so long. Haven't you?

Riku told me a little bit about that, but he didn't go into detail. [That one name catches her attention, though.] Xehanort's... Heartless?
Ven came to us a few years ago and had been with us ever since. Xehanort brought him to us and asked the Master look after him. He'd... lost his memory, and the only thing he could remember was his name. [She shakes her head.] There's not much I can tell you about Vanitas.
The castle was our home in Land of Departure. It... was in ruins when I got back. I can only assume it was Xehanort's doing. [It was such a heartbreaking sight, and even now it makes her heart twinge at the thought of their home being like that. And Ven...] Ven doesn't know, not yet anyway. At first I thought he had somehow managed to wake up while I was gone but... the Ven here is from before that time. He must still be there asleep. And I'm the only one who can find where he is, which is why I need to get back to him.
[She pauses for a bit.] So many years I've been gone... I only wish I knew what happened with Terra.

How sad, only remembering your name. [Then again, Kairi barely remembered anything when she got to the islands, so.] Vanitas is very...creepy. Very, very creepy. I know Roxas is trying to figure him out, but I'm kind of curious, too.
People like that are usually bent on destruction. If Ven doesn't know, that means...[That means he's a lot like Riku, and that itself makes Kairi feel for her. What a hard situation to be in, even worse than the original problems with Riku not knowing his fate.] I wonder how you got out though to get here.
...about ten or eleven years, if I'm doing my math right. Terra's here now, isn't he?

He's just like Terra. I kind of knew that from the first time I met him, though. [A pause. She's still trying to figure out all this new stuff.] Ansem? Who was that?
And he's also very dangerous. Vanitas is someone you need to stay away from.
I suppose it was this place that got me out of there. And I know I'll have to tell Ven eventually, but I had to tell him about our Master first, so putting so much on him all at once didn't seem like a good idea.
Yeah, Terra is here... it has to be another thing that can only be explained by it being this place.

[She blinks in surprise at this statement though.] How could you know something like that so early? [She pauses herself because...ugh. How to explain Ansem in a way that makes the most sense...] Ansem the Wise. He was a man who was studying the Heartless. He had several apprentices that helped him with his research, but eventually his apprentices took over and everything just became a big mess. You'd have to ask Sora the whole story.
[Flatly.] I know. I figured that out the day he put me in a chokehold.
It's like with Riku...I think Sora and I overloaded him, and he became so determined not to let the darkness get to him that it changed him. Things are better now, but I wish we could have done it differently. Better.
This place is very...strange. It brings people back even when you think they're gone forever. No one's quite sure why.

Riku had this very sincere look that reminded me of Terra, and even now Riku still has it. [She's very curious about this Ansem person now. She nods.] I'll have to ask him if I get the chance to see him.
[Her expression actually goes dark at that.] He what?
Mm. Sometimes things just don't work out the way you want them to. But it's still a good thing you told him.
