Slice of Work

So, as I may or may not have said at some point in the past, I work at a gas station, more or less. I guess its more of a convenience store than a gas station though, but anyways, we have no cameras on the fuel pumps which for such an active location is the height of stupidity. If someone drives off, guess who has to pay for it? Because guess what, the gas doesn't pay for itself!

Anyways, one of my coworkers had a drive off. The wife came up, bought some stuff, and said her husband will pay for it. Hubby, meanwhile, was wandering around the store on his cell phone. She left. He left. Guess where there was a communication breakdown? Yup. He never paid for the gas. Coworker got descriptions, but not the license plate.

So I spent six hours having the register plonk at me because the manager to me to leave it alone and the assistant manager would take care of it. When she finally got around to trying to take that off, she realized how really not busy it was at the register. Six hours. Six. Hours.

However, she finally got all $38 of it taken care of.

At this time, I feel that I should mention that our chain is in a partnership with a local grocery store chain, in that when you buy x amount of dollars in groceries, you get x amount of change on a card that you can then use to get that amount taken off your gas at our store. Your name and amount saved is then printed on your gas receipt when you pay.

When the receipt came out for the drive off, guess who used their partnership card?

I almost died laughing.

I almost hope that it was accidental, and they never did realize that the other hadn't paid for the fuel, because otherwise that just adds one hundred stupid points to their intelligence.

(Also, who could honestly not turn to their spouse and go, "You did pay for the gas, right?" If my boyfriend paid inside, and I went to get some stuff, I would definitely ask him that the second we got in the car. Seriously.)

I can't help but wonder if this is the same "But I thought he/she paid for it" couple that intentionally drove off on me a while back.
