Rare Pair Fest 2012 Letter
Greetings, Author!
First, I wanted to say thanks for being my author. I have no clue who you are, but you’re awesome.
Nothing I have set down is written in stone, and I’m quite flexible on that count. If something else you think of catches your fancy that I don’t have written, then by all means, go forth and write that. If you’re uncomfortable with something, then you don’t have to write it. Even if what you want to write contains more porn than plot, that is fine.
Anyways, for starters, here are my general likes and dislikes, applicable for all fandoms:

Marvel Avengers Movie Universe

As you can tell, I like Darcy. To get things started, I would like to request that Darcy not be a SHIELD lab assistant. She may have been Jane’s assistant at one point, but this is a whole new ballpark and I don’t think SHIELD would let her rot as a glorified grunt who is only qualified to highlight what she is told and be a scientist minder (more or less). She has a degree in political science; if they didn’t send her off into the wild after having her sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement Form, they would have put her and her degree to work in a better position.
In addition, I like Phil. I like to think that on his way to confront Loki, he made a quick detour to pick up a Life Model Decoy and sent it in his place. Or maybe the medical team managed to save him, or he ended up unexpectedly reviving for an unknown reason. There are two exceptions to this, which I will get to in a minute.
I like Clint in ceilings. Clint in vents. Clint on tables, dressers, shelves, cabinets, large appliances, lurking in closets, and so on and so forth. Also, if you can work in a reference to ceiling cat, that would be great.
I think that it would be interesting if Darcy ended up meeting her significant other(s) through work, like she’s employed somewhere else, and SHIELD sends someone on assignment to work with her or her employers for whatever reason. Or maybe they met during a mission and Darcy ended up needing little to no assistance for the most part. Also, maybe they just meet at some function, perhaps even at something informal such as a ‘Welcome Back, Thor!’ party.
For my Phil-exceptions, the first is zombie!Phil. He dies, but he comes back, and he’s not all there (in more ways than one). Cue his friends (or partner(s), if you go that route) trying to deal with the pain of losing him while trying to survive themselves. For my second exception, Phil dies but he has a Life Model Decoy that takes his place, but it doesn’t fill all the spaces that the original Phil did. He may be Phil, but he’s not their Phil. Just because they look alike doesn’t mean they’re the same person. Angst is welcome.
Also, for another non-pairing-specific idea, what about a regular day in SHIELD? I think this would be especially interesting if it follows Fury, but maybe Darcy saves the day with karaoke or things keep happening in Central Park. In addition, any interaction with JARVIS at any point in a plot would be great. JARVIS and the other robots are great.
I want to see Bruce and Darcy interacting during an emergency. I’d like for the Hulk to make an extended appearance, but that’s okay. What if Darcy saves the Hulk? How would he react? Again, no lab assistant Darcy, please.
I can see Darcy and Phil getting along disgustingly well, once they get over that iPod issue. Maybe the iPod even facilitates the relationship (“If I go out with you, will you give me my iPod?” “No.” “If I kiss you, will you give me my iPod?” “No.” “If I have sex with you, will you give me my iPod?” “No.” “If I…”). Also, bonding over their respective tasers, or the horror that is a bored Clint Barton.
Nick Fury, I think, would get along with Darcy, despite her irreverence. Maybe they spend time trying to get one up over on the other through paperwork? She’ll often drag him out because he’s working too hard and he can’t actually live in his office.
I can also see Nick Fury and Phil Coulson keeping Clint in line, or unashamedly using him to keep the rest of SHIELD in line and up to standards. If the agents can’t handle an unexpected Hawkeye, then they’re not quite good enough.

For starters, ignore the epilogue. The epilogue never happened. I’ve always figured that Ginny constantly built Harry up in her mind from childhood to the point where he could never quite live up to her expectations, and it would never work between them. If you want to ignore any other or all of the events from Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, or Deathly Hallows, then go ahead.
To be honest, I’m not too picky. I don’t want Harry to be beaten down or a living being of angst like he is often portrayed as being. I want him to be a strong, mostly confident young man who has had more than his share of problems but has managed to rise up and persevere anyways.
I like dragons and other magical creatures, and I like pranks. I don’t want the plot to be Quidditch-heavy. Non-magical AU’s are fine. Time travel is fine. Luna is cute, so even a brief appearance by her would be nice. I’d rather not see any character other than Snape and Pettigrew as a spy for their respective sides. If there are animagi, then I don’t want to see any of them being a magical creature (ie Draco's animagus being a dragon).
I’d like to see Charlie and Draco bonding over their love of dragons, but I don’t want them to meet at or work together at a dragon reserve. Maybe they meet at some sort of fundraising event for the reserve? Or Draco is a professor at Hogwarts and meets him when Charlie drops by to tell Hagrid how Norberta is doing. Maybe they even meet during the Hogwarts Battle, and one saves the other’s life?
I can see Fred and George urging Harry to greater reckless heights, or perhaps using pranks to court Harry, like sending him a bouquet of roses that sprays him in the face with pumpkin juice. Nothing malicious, but enough to leave Harry completely and utterly confused.
I don’t think the prank-courting method would work for Hermione, but you could always try. Otherwise, maybe she starts helping out with their inventions, since not everything they make is geared towards pranking. I can see her bringing all sorts of Muggle ideas to the table, even if she doesn’t necessarily approve.
I can see Oliver bringing out the fun side in Percy, and Percy bringing out the serious side in Oliver. Maybe they helped each other study? It’s mentioned at some point that Percy didn’t used to be all serious, and when he was a fifth year, he actually respected Dumbledore. What happened to change that? Was Oliver involved? Also, did Percy and Penelope Clearwater just pretend to date in order to protect their significant others? Or did Percy and Oliver get together after Hogwarts?
I don’t want Harry and Viktor to be reunited again through Quidditch, but maybe at Hermione’s wedding? Viktor can’t play Quidditch forever, so maybe they meet through his new job? I don’t really want to see them together or extremely interested in each other during the Triwizard Tournament, although hero worship or a crush would be fine.

I’m not nearly as picky in this fandom, nor do I have much in the way of ideas. I just ask that Sherlock still be alive in some capacity, and that there’s not a large focus on drug use. I’m perfectly fine with shop talk in the morgue, although if you do go that route, please do your research because I will probably notice if it is wrong.
Angel: The Series
Doyle/Willow

Cordy/Doyle
Fred/Wes
Whether Doyle survives past the first season, is revived, or the incident with the Scourge never happened is up to you. I like Doyle being alive, but that’s not necessary if you’re going the Fred/Wes route or if the story is set before his death. If you work in current Hellmouth events, starting from Sunnydale's destruction, I want it to be minimal, with no mention of comic canon. I’m not a fan of the last season of Angel, so if you want to steer away from that, it is fine.
I just think any of these pairings would be absolutely adorable. How would Willow or Buffy deal with Doyle’s violent visions? How would someone react when meeting the parents (or ex)? What other things would Doyle and Cordelia snark about, and how would Dennis react to Cordy getting involved with Doyle? Would he give Doyle the ghostly equivalent of the shovel talk? How would Wes’ family react to meeting his quirky girlfriend? Conversely, how would Fred’s family and friends react to her relationship with Wes when she drags him home to Texas?
Merlin
Merlin/Morgana
Merlin/Morgana/Arthur
I’d prefer any fic to take place either before Morgana sided with Morgause, or with her significant other(s) fully supporting her and on Morgause’s side as well. If Morgana never goes against Uther, then that is fine as well.
I also don’t have many ideas for this, but I like magical hijinks as well as revelations about Merlin’s magical abilities. I also like anyone running around in disguise, interaction with the knights, and visions. I don’t mind if any of the characters are evil, as long as the members of a pairing are on the same side, or just appear to be on opposing sides and someone is actually a spy or double agent. Modern universes are especially welcome here, especially if you play with time travel or reincarnation.
Crossovers
I’m only interested in one crossover between these listed fandoms, and that would be Marvel Avengers Movie Universe and Angel. I’d like for the pairings to be confined to each individual fandom, though, so no Cordy/Tony or anything like that. If you do go this route, I want to see something concerning Penn and Clint Barton, especially since one of them is an evil vampire and the other is…not. Would Angel Investigations react badly to Clint? Did Clint and Penn ever encounter each other while Clint was on a mission? Is there a secret file in SHIELD about their marksman’s evil doppelganger? What if Penn encounters someone who knows Clint, and that person isn’t fooled in the slightest?
This is much longer than I thought it would be, and I am very sorry about that. It’s kind of embarrassing when your letter more than meets the story submission requirements for a fest, especially since I didn’t think I’d have much to say in regards of most of the fandoms I have listed. Thanks!
