So. Last night the cops were called. I'm assuming Relative A ended up leaving, and Relative B was awake and remorseful this morning, and had not gone to bed at all. So, got to put up with an oblivious child and a sad Relative B. Then, later in the evening, the cops arrive with Relative A. Relative A is taking the kid and their clothes, and moving out. They ended up handcuffing Relative B, traumatizing and upsetting the kid. I had to cuddle a crying child who was upset because "Daddy was going to jaaaaiilllll". Not appreciated. So, Relative A is packing, Relative B is in a cop car, the cops are just hanging around, and I'm on Child Calming Duty. Then, I get handed a suitcase and two garbage bags, and am told to pack the kid's clothes and some toys.
I asked the kid, who had calmed down some by then, to put any favorite toys and books into one of the garbage bags. I started putting clothes and stuff away, remembering to leave out a pair of socks and adding boots, more socks, hats, gloves, underwear, and so on. I've gone through this before; I know how it goes. I then had the kid asking me why I was packing clothing. How do you explain to a kid that their parents are not happy and are getting divorced? So, I just told him that he's going on a special trip with Mommy. I dread finding out what happens.
Of course, Relative B is beyond angry because supposedly Relative A is lying on the hearing summons. Well. I wasn't actually present for most of it and could only hear what was going on, so...Yeah. Hell, I thought he was going to fuck it up after they left and I was beyond worried because he insisted on driving by where Relative A is staying. What do I do? Call Relative C, who calls Relative D, and there's phone tag all over the place. Relative C eventually calls Relative A because who knows what could happen? Relative B just ended up driving by, but I'm glad I insisted on coming along. He's not in a good place right now.
So, I may have to sign an affidavit or whatever. I probably won't be able to make it in person, so I'll have to do the alternative if possible. I think my professor would understand if I had to leave for a day or two, though.
Bah. This whole situation has completely supernova'ed. It's kind of depressing.
