Used to be I would log in to LJ after an episode had aired in the US, eager to catch up with developments, heedless of potential spoilers. This season though, with only a ten day lag, I've been avoiding the spoilers. So I haven't been following the US discussion much, and I don't know how fandom is reacting to each episode.
And I don't really know what to think about Gordon and his fate. All through this episode I kept thinking about Lenore and the other good vampires, and I was kind of hoping that Gordon as a vampire could become a good guy too. I'm big into redemption stories, and it would have been ironic, seeing as Human!Gordon was an enemy, if Vampire!Gordon was an ally.
But I guess I'm living in some dream world, because I should have known he was doomed from the moment he got bitten.
I'm troubled by Vampire!Gordon's gruesome death, and I'm also troubled by Sam's earlier decision that killing Human!Gordon had become necessary to stop pursuit. I don't know about this idea of the boys going darker this season. It's a fine line to walk - one I'm not sure if the writers will manage - and at the end of the day I still want the Winchesters to be heroes.
Quote of the episode:
Vampire: "I'm staring down eternity alone. Can you think of a worse hell?"
Dean: "Well, there's Hell."
