Notes on From Tomorrow with Love (From Eroica with Love)

It's been a while since I dipped into Eroica fandom, but it's one I'll always have a deep fondness for. My recipient had some really interesting prompts about Klaus and Dorian in the future, most of which I just wanted to read myself, instead of having to write them first.

In the end, I went with the ideas about them getting old but having one more case left in them, being close to retirement, and ending up unwilling friends integral to each other's lives. My recipient also had a prompt about Klaus going undercover as an art historian, and calling Dorian for help with the basics, so that ended up being the plot arc on which to hang the emotional arc.

There really is a book called Wall to Wall: From Beijing to Berlin by Rail, by Mary Morris, about her 1986 trip through China, Russia, and Germany. I came across it in Gould's Book Arcade during their moving sale, and was struck by the title.

I imagine the Apollo statue looks similar to the Apollo Belvedere.

The working title for this story was "Somewhere I Have Never Travelled", which I first came across years ago in Smallville or Supernatural fandom, and everywhere else since, so I knew I wanted to change it. It almost got called "One Last Heist", because that's a title I always love, but it wasn't really enough about a heist to justify that. Then I took inspiration from the manga itself, and it became "From the Future with Love". The number of words was clunky, but eventually I realised it could be "From Tomorrow with Love". It makes me feel hopeful, which fits what I was going for.

Notes on Shelter (Seafort Saga)

There was so many treats I wanted to write this year, but I only ended up having time to do this one. My recipient had a lot of great prompts to choose from, as always, and this time I decided to go with Tolliver injured and Nick looking after him. I love "stranded together in the wilderness" stories, especially as a vehicle for hurt/comfort and close bonding.

I've just realised, looking back, that the last time I wrote an Eroica fic was also the last time I wrote a Seafort Saga fic, for Yuletide 2013. Huh, interesting synchronicity.
