It's cold out there and I'm holding the fort having made cookies. Elizabeth will be bringing back the kids, JP, Leah and Esme from skating on the creek soon.
I'm not out skating partly because it's currently colder than Winnipeg out there,
but also because doctor's orders - my appointment came up for a vasectomy on Wednesday (I signed up on my birthday and the local expert is popular), so I am taking it easy for a week. I had somewhat mixed feelings around the appointment - what if I need my fertility? - but realistically I have three wonderful kids and they're a lot of work, and I'm in my late 30s. I'll help people out in other ways. Andrea was able to grab slightly-stoned me from the clinic, and recovering from this has been a lot easier than Elizabeth's recovering from some unpleasant dentistry.
The last few months of 2018 were really intense for me… lots of work and union stuff, both in terms of time taken and sleep lost. The Yule season was rejuvenating once I got there, which I really needed by then. Our Grove ritual was called off due to sickness so we just welcomed the sun in the morning (woo-OOO!) but we had a Podmas feat with Heather and Andrea and Morgen, then Christmas Eve with Elizabeth's folks (we got to admire their new bathroom and also catch her aunt for a little visit), a somewhat smaller Christmas Day than usual with my parents and brother and his partner and daughter, and Boxing Day with my parents and sister and niephlings. New Year's Eve we got to spend with Heather, Andrea and Morgen, playing Epic Spell Wars and making it to midnight in our kitchen.
Work is still a little low-key… I delivered a straggling bit of work from my last job and have been trying to get my ducks in a row with the new one. My section is still sorting out what it needs to be, but I feel like I'm in a good place to fix some stuff up rather than just knocking things off the to-do list. I had time to play lunchtime Scrabble this week, and due to a blowout and the standings resetting each year, I'm #1 (probably until next week).
