(years in review in general) 1. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
Participated in an impeachment vote. Tripped a Hep C alarm. Moved in with a significant other.
2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Didn't do much on that front.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
big_red_dave is a father of a healthy boy named Micah. But he's kind of far away.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, nobody, although 2007 probably won't be so lucky.
5. What countries did you visit?
The UK, and that's it. Didn't step into the US at all, for the second year running. Nothing political or methodical, just how things worked out.
6. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A single boss would be good.
7. What dates from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 1st: moving day!
August 9th: returning to Canada, about a day before the gel bomb panic.
September 13th: something's up at Dawson. Find Ellie the supervisor, quick.
December 25th: Christmas with
rottenfruit and the meeting of the parents.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting the StatCan interview.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Getting overwhelmed this past term and dropping a couple of balls.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing new, luckily.
11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
A certain turquoise hoodie. Comfy and good associations.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
rottenfruit,
denkizero, my family (old and new)
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
I won't name names, but they think they're terribly oppressed and hence above the hegemonic and inconvenient law.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, tuition, food, savings and a significant portion to train tickets. I'm pretty happy about my money situation and use.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving!
16. What song will always remind you of 2006?
Hard to say. Maybe Final Fantasy's “This Lamb Sells Condos”, maybe Ellie's “Paxton Gate.” Ask me mid-2007. Or play random songs when I'm not expecting them and see how I react.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier
b) thinner or fatter? Maybe a tad fatter, and that's probably a good thing.
c) richer or poorer? Yay, multiple roomies and slightly better pay ⇒ richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Hard to say, I don't think much. Variety is the spice of life.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Fretting.
20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
I wandered Eastern Ontario and the Suroît with the help of Via Rail and nice people with cars.
21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
Stayed in love, fell deeper I think.
22. How many one night stands?
None, which is about right.
23. What was your favourite TV program?
Six Feet Under. Haven't watched anything else in quantity.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yeah, see appalled section. A year ago I hadn't had the misfortune of meeting some of them, and thought the other one was at least trying.
25. What was the best book you read?
I've been a little sparse, literature-wise. Survey Sampling: a non-mathematical guide was probably a very good choice, though.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Final Fantasy.
27. What did you want and get?
The same address as
rottenfruit, an interview.
28. What did you want and not get?
A driver's license (got distracted), a solid start on the thesis.
29. What was your favourite film of this year?
I didn't see very many… Shortbus was fun, and I'll never listen to DNTO quite the same way again.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I returned from London, met
rottenfruit at the airport, saw where she works, and turned 26.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Immeasurably? I don't know.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006?
Comfortable, maybe a bit more colourful than before.
33. What kept you sane?
Love, coffee and down-time.
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
None in particular.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably Avenue Robert Bourassa. Silly, I know.
36. Who do you miss?
One guy in Australia, even though I'm terrible at keeping up.
37. Who was the best new person you met?
I didn't really meet her in '06, but I actually got to know
denkizero.
choucroute and
alabasterine have been pretty cool, too... and I think this was the year I met-in-person
aeon_of_maat. Best? I dunno. But these are some cool people I met or got to know this year.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006?
Be patient. Be hopeful.
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Can't think of one that quite fits.
