Pardon the intrusion, but--wouldn't a pillar of flame be rather uncomfortable? Once I appeared in a fireplace through a misjudgment in navigation and regretted it for weeks.

Depends on the fire, actually. Some of the folks around here've got magically rigged-up fires they use instead of the Tube or the phone. 's bloody weird to watch 'em use it, they stick their heads in and it goes all green while they're talking...
