If you could invent a holiday, what and when would it be? What special traditions would take place?

Holidays, for the most part, are used purely as a pretext to eat and drink too much, get presents and not work, I find. Christmas and Easter hijacked for crackers and eggs. The truly religious holidays seem to have a nasty habit of being abused by radicals and twisted into hatred. And the rest? As I say, Hallmark Day ( Read more... )

That would be the perfect sort of day, any day. If only people would just take a moment or two to simply listen . . . there'd be a lot more understanding and less violence, I think. Or so I'd hope.

No. No, I don't think we could. I mean, honestly? How many do you think even heard much less listened to this much of what you've said? About the holiday, I mean? Probably not many . . .

It's something I always tried to teach Rose. I think she gets it. Even at 6. And some adults do learn and at least try to listen. But too few. So few!
