Having an autistic child is like having a black best friend: far from excusing bigoted remarks, it makes them even less justifiable. When your child is old enough to take exception to such remarks, are you going to tell her or him to "Calm the fuck down" because ha ha, you were just joking?
Okay. I'm sorry to have jumped on your case so hard. The issue of the 'usefulness' (or lack thereof) of autistics has been a major hot-button in the autistic community for a long time now, and not many of us find it very funny. It's only self-deprecating humor if you yourself are autistic, and even so, it's still putting down your child as well as yourself.
For the record, autism is useful in many ways, so your kid may grow up to surprise you. How useful is neurotypicality?
