I find that most perfume smells like perfume. Or like some flowers got super drunk and vomited copiously on a person.

i get stuck at the "perfume=imminent death" stage of smelling it and probably wouldn't be able to distinguish further than "it smells like perfume" either. otoh, i can do things like tell by scent what spices are in things, so it's probably just a shut-down mechanism for me.

You can train your nose to be more sensitive, you know! It involves smelling lots of different things and trying to write down descriptions of them.
