EVER KNOW SOMEONE WHO AFFECTS YOU IN STRANGE WAYS? EVER KNOW ANYONE WHO DOESN'T?
I did this little dandy of a picture yesterday and spun a sweet little slice of life story out of it. Relationships can be frustrating ... and fun. Did I say spun? Actually, it jumped out of a corner and hit me in the head:

Like I told Jeff, I'm not sure anyone realizes it's a horror tale.

Well, the fact that your story gave me the heebie-jeebies; and, when I responded, I was in the middle of putting kids down and other night time things; and I'm still up - but to bed soon - should tell you something.

Hello Ed!

Gosh, I thought it was a very sweet and lovely story Ed, and here you say it's a horror tale!

There are some subtilities I haven't grasp, obviously.

But I found the Story very litteraire and interesting, (I read it 3 times, not at once though, and I haven't grasp the horror in the story.

I find your response interesting. My niece said almost the same thing to me today. I would not want to interpret my stories to anyone, however, preferring simply to evoke a reaction. It makes me wonder though.

Perhaps we bring something of ourselves into the characters we read about, wishing for certain things to be true, in the same way we relate to people in real life, sometimes ignoring the obvious, sometimes filling in the blanks as we see fit. Madness and horror can indeed be very subtle, I prefer it that way, and I sometimes like expressing it in a rather poetic and sometimes even humorous way.

Remember a long time ago I told you about the writer Margaret St. Clair and my favorite story by her, Brenda? She was the mean not well-liked young girl who befriends a monster on an island during summer vacation. To this day, I'm not sure what the story means, except that it is certainly very bizarre, although very subtle too ( ... )

The woman is not really there, is she? At least, that was my take on it. I mean, she was there to him, but to others she would appear an apparation.

Oh, she was really there all right. I'll tell you that much. Probably a wife or girlfriend. No trickery from me about that.
