And then the political hacks moved in like grim reapers spewing their usual talking points and - or so it seemed - suck the very life and air out of the chamber.
I lasted until about the 14:30 point of the "filibuster" (it wasn't one technically) and it was exhilarating and so very impressive seeing actual statesmen speaking from the hearts on a wide range of issues with intelligence and clarity and in tune, not with Washington D.C., but with America.
His central focus?
WASHINGTON D.C. DOESN'T LISTEN AND THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE BEING DEPRIVED OF REAL SUBSTANTIVE DEBATES ABOUT THE REAL ISSUES THAT AFFECT THEM.
If you didn't see any of it, or have only seen a few seconds gleaned from the media, you missed a history and civics lesson for the ages and infinitely more intelligence and wit than we have seen delivered from teleprompter speeches in years.
Now it's obvious to so many more, even those who know of the talents of these men, why they are so hated and when they have to be smeared and destroyed - even by those who are supposed to be on their side.
WOW! Mike Lee and Ted Cruz represented the concerns of the American people and are being vilified from all quarters for "wasting time" and not being "team players".
They spoke the truth, exposed the hypocricies, frauds and failures of the political system that exists, particularly in the party establishment, and Washington D.C. is simply not programmed for honesty. In fact, they hope and think people are stupid - which goes to show how far the have sunk.
Cruz and Lee and, by extension, "we the people", may indeed lose this battle - as the Washington ruling class gets back to business as usual, but we have struck a nerve. And no - this is not about individuals - it is about what they stand for. What WE stand for. The exceptional nature of America that is systemetically being deconstructed, being "transformed" into something else it is not - by force.
The real America was on full display for over 21 hours and how sweet that was.
We're not going away despite reaching this awful tipping point of a post-Constitutional America in which men imagine themselves our rulers and keepers, exempt from their own dictates and above it all.
What a contrast to hear their words juxtaposed against what we usually hear from Washington and, yes, the liberal media. They do not want to discuss the facts - which is why they do everything they can to change the subject, to resort to name-calling, to avoid discussing the real issues.
It was beautiful - it was inspiring - it was encouraging - to see real leadership and common sense - and this is what's coming, so all the RINO's and Democrats have been put on notice.
The American people understand what's happening.
