the animus fadeth.
Okay, so it apears the Animus saga is finally over. The last couple of months, you may have noticed this symbol around Adelaide:
After seeing these things around a bit, I then heard about the website www.animuscult.com. Basically, the front page had a ticker counting down to the night of Friday 13th October. Throughout the rest of the site, there was some vague rhetoric about no longer putting up with paedophiles and rapists etc. The forum was full of rumours about a nocturnal, trenchcoated vigilante protecting the innocent of Adelaide, and there were a few hazy photos and videos to boot.
Of course, I became instantly suspicious; if there really was a rapist found with his throat pulled out, surely The Advertsier would have mentioned it. So as Friday the 13th approached, I did a bit of Googling. Turns out it's all a marketing campaign for an Adelaide-made independant film ('THE ANIMUS COMETH')by a guy called Allen Reid. Some kind of kung-fu movie, apparently.
Okay, so that's all very interesting. But Reid hasn't updated his website in a fair while, and there was never any indication as to where we were supposed to be when the counter clicked zero. I signed up to join the Animus cult, and if I'd have known the location of the premiere, I totally would have gone. But there was never anything like that; the hype died on its arse. There are mixed mixed reports about the quality of the film, which is to be expected for an independant film, especially a genre-piece. But it's such a shame that this guy would put so much effort into painting these symbols all around Adelaide and then foget something so tiny, yet so crucial.
