So far I have only established his name, and the fact that he is 52 and lives with his spinster sister. He is the nicest, quietest and most trouble-free tradesman ever. No constant in and out of the front door, no blaring radio, no copies of The Sun open on Page 3 left lying around.
He arrives at 08.45 on the dot, works till 13.00 on the dot when he goes to sit in his Astra to eat his lunch (which is no doubt prepared and packed by his spinster sister) starts work again at 13.30 on the dot, and leaves as quietly as he arrived at 17.45. On the dot.
I feel obliged to provide him with tea at 8.45, 11.30 and 15.30 on the dot. I have a superstitious feeling that if I failed to do it the spell would break and he would start sticking his hand in his pocket to scratch his balls in stereotypical style when I am trying to discuss the niceties of oil-based vs water-based eggshell.
