http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8280603.stm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUjo2Wc682A My husband is still in Guinea while all this crap is going on. When we spoke on the phone last night, all I could hear in the background was the sound of gunfire. He's scared and I'm scared for him, and heartsick over all the people who were brutally shot, gassed , raped or stabbed with bayonets by the army and police - people who are supposed to PROTECT civilians. The army was also taking an apparently large number of bodies directly back to the army barracks, along with women who were stripped, beaten, & loaded into army trucks. So who knows really how many dead there are? I suspect well over 200, in addition to at least 1500 wounded. Eyewitnesses also reported seeing women being stripped and publicly raped with rifle butts, and soldiers stamping on their genitals with boots.
Of course, there is very little video or even photos available online yet, nor is Guinea trending on twitter. Because they are too busy talking about Jon & Kate + 8. *headdesk*
