There's something nicely cathartic about it. I suppose in a way one could call it a deliberate destruction and dispersal of one's thoughts, but I've generally thought of it as a casting away of things I don't need anymore, once I've thought them. I don't trust locks, not at all. There's always a way in.

I agree with you about locks. That's why I don't trust spells, either - same thing as a Muggle protection, really.
