I had to think about this for a while before responding. I don't care much for the John Winchester character either. However, I feel there is a reason, other than the messed-up-edness of the whole Winchester family as a whole, as it were

I think it's awful that he spent Sam's college fund on ammunition, I think it's awful that he deprived his kids of any semblance of childhood whatsoever, I think it's awful that he made Dean be a father, mother, brother, and best friend to Sam, I think he's an awful dude in general.

IA. IASFM. i do NOT get the love for him and i do not want him back- i'm so glad JDM has said he wasn't happy with the way John ended up and that there's not much chance he;ll come back because i don't want him back. i don't want more guilt piled up on the boys for things they had nothing to do with. they didn't ask for the life he made them lead, he didn't ever check to see if they were comfortable with it or even happy as kids, he just dragged them all around the country putting their lives at risk.

plus, being the sole carer of two boys and yet continuously throwing yourself into the jaws of evil time and time again because you've got a death wish is so unbelievably selfish.

basically i agree, John was a let down and a tool.
