I’ll make this brief, but I just want to express how sad I am that Conan O’Brien is leaving our TV airwaves indeterminably. He was, by and large, the nicest, funniest, most imaginative, and most amazing talk show host out there, and was in no way, shape, or form, deserving of the treatment he received from NBC and Leno. I think Conan is truly, truly a class act, and the fact that he was willing to resign from his dream job on principle rather than let The Tonight Show’s reputation be slandered says so much for his morals and personality.
I have faith that he will not be gone from TV Land for long, and in the mean time I will give Jimmy Kimmel my viewership, but it won’t be the same. Having him in the legendary Johnny Carson’s tenure was nothing short of spectacular, and, to be sure, Conan has got a million times more fortuity, sophistication, and heart than I could ever hope to. I wish I could abide by your sentiments, Conan, and stow my cynicism, but unfortunately, I tend to be a cynical person in general.
My endless applause goes to you, however, in your outstanding way of bringing comedy and goodwill into the homes of viewers ever since 1993 when you introduced a whole new brand of humor into late night, and I wish you only the best of luck and good fortune in the future. I know when you end up on the small screen again, I’ll be tuning in as avidly as ever.
Conan, you are, in the simplest of terms, the best.
So thank you for all you’ve done, sir, thank you.
