What a detailed review, thank you so much!

"Tonks wondered if Lupin realised what a compliment it was that they all liked him so much. Probably not: low self-esteem was another thing she’d noticed about him, though he hid it well."

That was a really good sentence because it really brought me back to when JKR said that Remus really likes to be liked. It seems really right to me to think that Remus would really like being liked but never really know when people liked him.

Exactly. He's never quite learned to recognise when he's loved and appreciated. I'm betting that when Harry said "you're the best Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher we've ever had", his immediate thought was "well, look at who's taught you" and he didn't even think of the implication that nearly all his students loved him and would have fought for him.

Again, I think having Sirius back was harder for Remus than anyone else, because he must have seen the young man Sirius once was and known that young man would never come back again. And I think he was the one who looked after Sirius the most, and he must have wished James was there because James looked after him the best, and he knew that Sirius was wishing the same thing, just because James was his brother in everything but blood.

Yeah, Remus makes you want to hug him a lot, doesn't he?
